I thought it was down the tracks, not across the road. And definitely not *beside* the tracks. That would just be silly.

I think its pretty shit in all respects. Illustration, animation, interface.
Quite boring and uninteresting content as well.
Not sure what you were going for - humour, controversy, commentary. Just a bland flash game that looks like it took you all of 20 mins to make.
IMO. IMHO.

@Khurram: Hey kid, don't hold back. Tell me how you really feel.
- stewdio0
No no, go on Khurram. Everyone's listening to you. Everyone's waiting for you to flesh out your criticism of this "Flash" game. Do go on.
- Sorry, didn't pay enough attention to realise its not flash, not that it makes any differenceKhurram
- What's that little guy? "Sorry. Didn't pay enough attention..." That's what I thought.stewdio
- Yes. You're project has very little to engage my interest. I got to the end and thought "fucking childish".Khurram
- And quite frankly i'm surprised that this means that much to you. Seems to have so little thought behind it.Khurram

not really diggin it stew - I like the device and think its an interesting exercise in using the scroll bar, I like the animations/illustrations and as a 'game' it has reasonably satisfying pay offs. Thing I don't like is that it doesn't for me resolve to any kind of punchline which gives the thing any resonance. My humour is about as black as it gets, so I'm not talking about some kind of worthy message, but if you're doing something based around peoples various methods of taking their own lives I think you need to try harder to make it go somewhere and mean something, even if that meaning is a genuinely black-hearted comic pay off.
Right now for me it looks like you had a concept for a browser interaction device and thought that would be enough.
sorry, I love a lot of your stuff, it generally pretty clever

I reckon the donation link looks like you're trying to make that worthy point about suicide as well, and that the donation will go to a suicide charity - if its not, then I think you should remove it for to reasons:
It gives a false feel to the thing, detracting from the *lack* of message (if you get what I mean)
It's just a bit shit going "look, suicide. Now gimme some cash"
- stewdio0
@kelpie: I didn't envisioned it as a "game" per say, but I'm satisfied that it can be conceptualized that way. I never wanted any payoff beyond the fade from red to emptiness. (That's sort of the point, no?) I don't think the subject matter is about payoff; more about frustration. It's abstract and fleeting. A punch line might undercut that. The closest thing to humor in it is the title "Options."
The experience of moving a viewer through this self-abusive process is what I found interesting. It's a way of sharing this idea in a medium that is not a verbal or written description and is not a passive movie. It requires a modest effort from the viewer. Yes, could have been constructed in Flash or other and maintained that interactivity but for me the constraints made the idea quirky enough to be worthy of pursuit. How can such basic elements (HTML DIVs and scroll bars) be . . . sad?
Yea, the "look here's suicide now give me cash" bit is cheap. But so is graphic design. "Looks here's a supposedly clever layout and type treatment now give me cash." Or "here's a new social network." Or "here's a sexy photo." Etc. I thought the sad/morbid route was at least honest. I'm poor. And I thought it was more respectful that putting Google Ads on the page.
- hmmm, ok then, though it doesn't really do any of that for me. your last paragraph is bullshit though. Those other examples aren't about deathkelpie
- based around tragic early deathkelpie
- Agreed. If a company hires me to do some graphic design, than yes, give me cash. Not the case here.baseline_shift

I know you didn't make it as a game stew, I used that term to describe the interaction>payoff aspect of using each stage
- FallowDeer0
IE7 Win, the speed dial doesnt show when you "floor it"
- Khurram0
You need to get out of yoru tree. You are not making any point with this whatsoever. And i didn't find it sad. In fact it had no emotional impact on me whatsoever.
All i see is a boy thinking "suicide! that'll catch people's attention!" and then having absolutely NOTHING to say on the matter.
And please, it quite obviously IS a fucking game.
"The experience of moving a viewer through this self-abusive process". Oh come on!

@Khurram: So kid, where's your self-initiated work?
- Take it like a man.Khurram
- he's not a designer, he does have a point though, however harshly putkelpie
- Take what exactly? You sound like a fool to me.stewdio
- This thread isnt about Khurram's work. I think you guys are being chldish. Overly critical and sensitive.baseline_shift
- QUOTE: "Can I pull some more comments from the QBN mind hive? Too morbid? Too.....??."Khurram
- Yea, I was hoping for *intelligent* comments. Not your idiocy. Or your misogyny. ("Take it like a man"??) Grow up kid.stewdio

its great! people are expecting too much. this is just a bit o' fun. the donate link is fine too, i didn't read that far into that it's supposed to be a donation to a cause type of thing.
- kelpie0
"this is just a bit o fun" lol
I'll post my wife beating app in here when its done then
- stewdio0
@ephix: I think you have the right idea about it. I must have just hit a nerve with Khurram. And Kelpie, I get what you're saying about the design. The "wife beating" comment seems a little reactionary though. The subject might be too touchy, regardless of whether the design is fair or poor. I should have suspected as much from the reactions on the thread that planted the seeds for this project :

Wasn't trying to push the topic in people's faces, it was just on my mind after watching a few water searches on the East River. Making things is my way of mentally digesting what's around me.

cui bono, kuz?
- juhls0
You're so weird. I love it.
- stewdio0
@juhls: Night before show opened in Paris laid down in dark gallery upstairs and listened to all of "Knives don't have your back." Was first moment of stillness in months.
