@kelpie: I didn't envisioned it as a "game" per say, but I'm satisfied that it can be conceptualized that way. I never wanted any payoff beyond the fade from red to emptiness. (That's sort of the point, no?) I don't think the subject matter is about payoff; more about frustration. It's abstract and fleeting. A punch line might undercut that. The closest thing to humor in it is the title "Options."

The experience of moving a viewer through this self-abusive process is what I found interesting. It's a way of sharing this idea in a medium that is not a verbal or written description and is not a passive movie. It requires a modest effort from the viewer. Yes, could have been constructed in Flash or other and maintained that interactivity but for me the constraints made the idea quirky enough to be worthy of pursuit. How can such basic elements (HTML DIVs and scroll bars) be . . . sad?

Yea, the "look here's suicide now give me cash" bit is cheap. But so is graphic design. "Looks here's a supposedly clever layout and type treatment now give me cash." Or "here's a new social network." Or "here's a sexy photo." Etc. I thought the sad/morbid route was at least honest. I'm poor. And I thought it was more respectful that putting Google Ads on the page.

    • hmmm, ok then, though it doesn't really do any of that for me. your last paragraph is bullshit though. Those other examples aren't about deathkelpie

    • Agreed. If a company hires me to do some graphic design, than yes, give me cash. Not the case here.baseline_shift
