Forget the film adaptation of some graphic novel masquerading as philosophy/satire...

WHO is the doll mold above and how can we adapt her into a movie?

  • madmanGerald0

It is better if you have read the book. It helps to have some of the back story of the characters.
Don't expect spider man. Do expect some excellent bone snaps, disfigurement, a blue wiener and a bit of boob. This is not pg.
The story holds up and seems relevant today. Threats of total destruction are a pretty common theme in Hollywood these days.
    are these the end times?
    good movie.

you didnt tell me the watchmen was a NWO order plot? HA. It's coming.

I just watched the Watchmen movie. I noticed a lot of hidden symbolism that relates to a lot of the new world order stuff that I'm aware of in the film. Anyhow, please don't read this thread if you're going to watch it if you haven't already watched it.

#1- hidden symbolism in the United States. In the United States in the universe of the watchmen President Richard Nixon was President until 1985 and he seemed to never age. Could it be a sign of immortality? I don't think that's it. What they were doing in the film was to create an imaginable future of the USA where we have a dictator and they placed Nixon in during wartime. At the end of the movie Nixon and the USSR make peace because they unite against a common enemy whom they are lead to believe destroyed NYC. Possible preparation for a new world order?

#2- Korvac, was a clear believer in justice. He wanted justice. But he got none in the end. After all the trouble he went through he only got killed in the end. Justice was not enacted. Again, in the real world things don't turn out to be how you want it to be.

#3- There was a group called the pyramid. Doesn't that sound a lot like the illuminati? This group was crucial to Adrian (the main villain) in bringing about the NWO. I think this is potential disclosure.

#4- There were lots of discussions about human nature in the film. It was trying to suggest that human nature is by its very nature unchangeable. This one character, Jon, who was turned into a God basically by an experiment, altered him. He basically "let it all happen". He let his power be abused. Maybe it's symbolic of any heroes trying to step up won't be able to stop everything?

#5- In the film they won the Vietnam war. The comedian says that the country would have been hell if they hadn't won it. Maybe the movie is trying to get people desensitized to war and violence and get them to think that peace can be accomplished or things can be accomplished throughout war. Or maybe it's saying that war tears the country apart and it wants you to think that if we win wars then it won't?

I believe the film is propaganda by the new world order. Clearly it is based off a comic book. But I just think there are too many similarities between the film and the NWO.

I read one of parts from the comic some time ago, never finished the ending so i think it was the first part... While it was interesting mood wise, i couldnt get involved in the story, while its an interesting idea having all these superheros on a human level, it just felt bland to me.

The movie didnt work for me at all, im usually all for keeping as true to the source as possible, but nothing worked for me. The pacing, character development, plot structure, narrative... art direction and camera angles were nice.

I think it would have been far more interesting to put in a modern day setting, replace bush with nixon, cut commies insert terrorists.
Have a more of a straight narrative/structure, start from the begining of it all, no flashbacks and shit. Maybe even remove a character or two(yes fanboys would kill him). Overall i felt that the director did a good job visual vise, but it seems to me it only appeals to one demographic, which is the fans.

Singer did a great job at the x-men movies, while i dont think they are great, they are good and have a broader appeal. I was a bit let down after seeing the first one, but upon watching the second one, it sort of merged into one movie. Which was a smart thing to do, instead of cramming it into one, split it up and take time to develop.

Maybe this should have been done, a trilogy, where the first one could have been more action/plot driven, second could have included explenations from the past, and the last one could have focused on the big dramatic ending.

    • whilst I kind of agree... you sound like a studio head.quamb
    • lol, yeah i prolly do, but is it really ok to use 150mil on something that only appeals to one demographicattentionspan

    I thought it was fantastic.

Paced just like the graphic novel, although there were some small details left out that I think would have helped develop the characters a little better.. Spoiler sort of stuff below, so don't read if you haven't seen.

I thought it was weird that they didn't include Rorschachs influence on the psychiatrist, and the way he really dealt with the child killer. (ie, handcuffed him to the stove, then left a saw by his hand while he lit the house on fire, to see if the kidnapper had enough will to live to cut off his own hand, as he warned him against trying to saw through the cuffs, as it wouldn't be fast enough.)

The fact that they left out the Black Freighter "comic within a comic" was a bummer. It's a great story, and mirrors / foreshadows what is going to happen in the story. But I understand that due to length, it had to go.

Also, I'm quite disappointed that the conversation between Ozymandias / Jon at the end was cut. Because despite his hubris, Ozymandias clearly questions whether it was the right thing to do, and Jon really doesn't answer it, leaving a whole different layer of regret and guilt in Ozymandias. I think it was an important detail that was left out.

Other than that, I enjoy the fact that so many people who see it are pissed off that it's not a typical superhero movie, and that, it's mostly not at all. Any changes to the action pacing of the movie would have upset the whole concept of the book, and I'm glad they didn't dumb it down for the mindless masses.

Also, setting it in present day would have been really awful. Just my two cents.

I read somewhere that the Black Freighter was going to be released on DVD as an animation at the same time as the cinema release. Then added into a directors cut DVD.

I haven't seen this happen though, but I do hope it makes a directors cut still as I agree about it being a great part of the book.

    • they had a preview for the DVD release of the anime before the movie when i saw it.sublocked

I thought it was great. I saw it last night.

One small part I picked up on:
When they are fighting at the beginning in the Comedians apartment. Which happens to be apartment 3001. The comedian throws a glass and knocks the 1 off the door. Leaving the number "300" a callout to the director of the film (who directed 300).

  • lifterBARON0

I think it's fair to say it's long, complex yes and well done absolutely. I think that most of the people that don't like it assumed it would be some action thriller, with non stop tits, ass and quick one-liners. Not this one kids, very complex plot and not a traditional method of telling a story. If you loved Wanted or even Twilight (hahahah) don't see Watchmen.

  • superdan0

Awful film. Gutted heard lots of great things.

Loved the intro sequence though, immediately I thought I was for a real treat of a movie. Why oh why did we need to see so much blue man-bits, call me old-fashioned surely a dark shadow area would suffice.

  • ukit0

    I enjoyed it.

However, I can see why many would hate it seeing as how the plot was very complicated, hard to understand at times, and there wasn't a neat ending with the good guy kicking the bad guy's ass.

Having said that though, it was entertaining and had many interesting and thought provoking ideas but in terms of execution was not a great film, just good.

I really dug it, but I felt I was missing a lot of back story because I had never read the books.
The Rorschach kicked assssss. Not quite as good as the Dark Knight, but def up there in terms of super hero flix.
