It's a solid service that's simple and well worth the price. But, it really depends on what type of designer you are. If do anything else besides web design it should work just fine as far as a portfolio goes.
But, if you're a web designer, it doesn't really make sense for this to be your primary portfolio. It's understood that you should have a custom built site to show your abilities.

Haha.. yeah I hear you but I am a print guy who gets suckered into web projects. Thanks for your comment

i would still have my own portfolio site. which i do. :-)

Well I noticed the pro account has domain mapping which would be a nice temporary feature to have instead of constantly having to redirect people while I build the new site

The only thing that kind of bugs me about the layout is the constant scrolling.. i wonder if there is a way of displaying the stuff without having to scroll so much.

I find it frustrating that I can't browse for people... Obviously I understand the business model, but I'm never going to commit to a subscription given how much time I spend looking for people.
A better model (for me) would be like a dating site where I couldn't contact the person without some kind of subscription, perhaps a short-term or single contact payment. Clearly all contact details and so on would need removing from the resumes/portfolios I looked at.

i got 11 jobs from my krop portfolio..im happy with it, even though not one of my clients is remotely web related.. i use it for my graphic and detail heavy robotic artworks. just to showcase to my clients that i can draw anything..

has anyone using this received work from someone just browsing and finding your portfolio there ?

Somehow I didn't realize until just now that people have to pay to see Krop portfolios. That kinda sucks.

sounds like Krop is trying to eat the pie from both ends... which means they'll probably end up with steaming hot meat landing in their lap (all puns intended, and they may even enjoy the meat) :)

I have a krop creative pro subscription, so far it hasn't paid off. I didn't expect that I would get people knocking down my door or anything, but the thing I don't like is that there is no way of knowing whether anyone has even glanced at my site. There's not even a way for me to run a test to see if my name would come up in searches, cause as an employer you need an account to do that. So I basically have my work on their site and can only assume that it's coming up in searches. I have no way of confirming that. If I need to improve my tags, it would be nice to have some information to work with. I have my work on the aiga website as well and they have an indicator that lets you know how many people have viewed each individiual peice in your portfolio and I at least get an occasional call to see my book. The work I get from the aiga site has paid for my membership many times over.

If people are surfing Krop and finding a designer/illustrator/photographe... they like the style of then yes its maybe worthwhile having your own folio site PLUS having a wee krop one too - even a free one and point people towards your main site for more work.
if i was going with one of these quickbuild sites then it'd probably be indexhibit as you can customise it with your own css and still have a stupid easy cms for updates that people who are not coders can update.

I used it this past year and it worked just fine. I don't think employers had to pay to see your work, just your contact information. And in most cases I was the one doing the contacting, so they had my information anyways.
There isn't a way to check your views (like with c.o.r.o.f.l.o.t) but I like the display/price a lot more than the alternatives.

I was wondering if clents are given access to browse portfolios based on category etc.? Because otherwise it'd be like any other portfolio thats up to you to promote and use for job applications.

The bad thing about krop though is that you are linked whether you like it or not to other illustrators/designers/photograp... etc
So if you send someone your link to see your work to show them what you can do for a potential job, they might end up navigating away from your page and onto another creatives page, losing you a possible client.- i don't see where they're linked, is this a pro account thing or should i be logged in or what?KwesiJ

i think employers/clients have to pay to be able to browse folios

(unless youve specifically sent someone a link to YOUR page)

Yep, got a pro account.
I think it is rather cheap and the layout is clean and neat.
The Sliders are practical too as no need to go back to a previous thumbnail page, as all is there on a page.
$99 a year is a great price...and don't forget the mapping domain name option to personalise it. Ideal!
You can also check how many people have been on your site when you log in and go to Resume...it will tell you how many people visited your site.

personally, i think some of the other unmentionable portfolio hosting services seem like a better, more attractive deal.
making your own site seems to be the best bet though.

Employers have to pay to view your portfolio. So you pay money to limit your potential. How does it make sense?
