Hey guys. Can anyone recommend some good books on branding? Not books with a lots of cool logos and little text but books that explore branding from a theoretical perspective then show the application. Can anyone help??

Kevin Roberts has a book about his Love Marks concept. It's very specific but if your local store has it go leaf through it.

along the lines of The Brand Gap, Before the Brand gives you a good overview.

This one is probably not quite what you want, but it does go a little into Brand architecture and naming systems which to me is an important part of brand design and thought.
<em>Marks of Excellence</em> by Per Mollerup
- funny - i actually tried the < i > not <em> strange outcome there.Amicus
- funny that you even thought html tags worked on these posts in the first place.monospaced

Any good links for branding you'd like to share?

books on branding are weird. if you want to know about branding ask critical and emotional questions about a brand you enjoy/hate.

I've been watching some youtube vids on branding, and my branding books aren't that good. I'm just starting to scratch the surface on branding and want to really get a good hold on it.

- it's easier to communicate that way.
but design doesn't specially matter, just the communication. badly designed logo with expensive communication work.uan - wow, did we just post the same image at the same time?pinkfloyd
- just reposted your image, because yours didn't load here firstuan
- stussy stands out like a sore thumb, only one with any character. YSL one is hideousgilgamush

So branding is the perception, personality, gut feeling about the company. How would I translate that into a logo? Choice of font, color and style. What else is there to it?
- It has nothing to do with logos.monoboy
- I know, but i'm working on a logo for a brandpinkfloyd
- I'm looking for practical ways in creating a logo that shows it's brand.pinkfloyd
- If you know their values, proposition, tone of voice, offer and business goals, it should spark an idea. It's really hard without, just guess/styling work.monoboy
- P.S. Logos don't really matter. It's more what the company does and stands for or is synonymous with that counts.monoboy
- also, check what the competition has and stand out, be bolder, similar but differentuan
- Let's say you were to create a logo for a luxury brand. How would you begin? I guess i'm looking at other logos to see what's out there. What else would you do?pinkfloyd
- Yup. good research. Use colours and styles that stand out in that market. Explain why the product is different with excellent messaging. Luxury brands = emotionmonoboy
- typography. sublime kerning on. detail.uan

there's no branding without strategy

Clearly there's a lot to learn here. The previous posts are 6 years old, and the Brand Gap looks awesome but it's not available on the kindle. Need more resources. Cheerz.
