I don't think all agencies are making the transition to "social circles" and more grass root "Obama" like marketing, but it is quite the trend now and it works.
Anyone else's agency doing this (transforming into facebook like only developers) that were originally more traditional web and print?

you don't find it funny that they had to create an in depth/over-produced advertisement about this?

- ...what I thought when i first saw this. great work, but only a few in the "ad" really have anything to do with connecting social circles.JasonSack

That's just like when everyone was saying print was dead. None of it dies it just changes the way you do things.

to osfa, they are olson + co. out of minneapolis. they have really grown as a company (as far as the sheer amount of employees and the work they produce). they used to do a ton of stuff for target corp. on the interactive side.
i know a handful of people there.
- I liked their work and their site before the transition. However, it is a smart business strategy for a new age and apparently successful.********

marketers seem to be advertising more to themselves recently. but i mean just because social networking is taking off doesn't make ads 'dead'.

How can advertising be dead when wu-tang is forever?
- ********0
not dead, just changing.
marketers have been targeting social networks forever, its just that the networks are now to be found online, so the channel changes.

I am going to sound like a 60 year old man, but Bill Clinton was on Larry King last night talking about this in regards to fundraising and non-profits. Several companies and organizations are restructuring their entire marketing campaigns for a more grass root Obama like approach = a broader spectrum of donors and more exposure, yet smaller donations with all online based revenue... Its been out there for a while and this is one of the first "agencies" I have seen really embracing this strategy for their entire agency brand. Interesting none the less... Carry on... And get those damn whipper snappers off my lawn!

Advertising as we know it morphs. In the early 1800s media didn't really exist to a large extend and the first form of major advertising came from sign painting and then closer to the 1900s posters became the way people found out about events etc. then tv, then facebook, phones, through direct contacts. web advertising has been and still is big because of its trackable return on investment and all the funny cliche words that go with it but.. The future maybe it is a more grass roots element. I personally think though if advertising is more than just advertising and serves a design function it will serve more purpose to the consumer and have a louder voice in a time where people are looking for things to be optimistic. Like cut your 3,000,000 ad spend on the 30 second spot and give back 3,000,000 to a hurting charity or buy a wing in a non profit hospital.. or do something with it that increases your brand presence without being viewed as just another wasteful company out there.. And I've had it with the incentives for saving the world... These companies need to start being responsible without pitching in 5% of a purchase with a legal description that says for every other purchase or something that requires an illogical way about how your money buying a product will somehow end up in an aids charity. I think people are sick of it. And in these tough times they see through it, so if advertising is to survive the common sense factor needs to kick-in, do something with your ad-spends that actually helps the people your trying to reach and I bet they'll start listening.
- Not too mention, grass roots moments like branding are about connecting people and feeling like part of a whole...********

Oh here's a really crazy idea... take an ad spend that was going to focus on buying an ad spot and buy a town cnn reports theirs a town for sale on ebay for 900k. haha. What better way to take part in the american way rename a town after your brand and give something back. That'll make the news.
- I believe they did do that... It's called Disneyland... but good point.********
- Disney does have a "town" called Celebration. It's based around the aesthetic and moral values Disney believes in.MISTERKIJI
