Advertising as we know it morphs. In the early 1800s media didn't really exist to a large extend and the first form of major advertising came from sign painting and then closer to the 1900s posters became the way people found out about events etc. then tv, then facebook, phones, through direct contacts. web advertising has been and still is big because of its trackable return on investment and all the funny cliche words that go with it but.. The future maybe it is a more grass roots element. I personally think though if advertising is more than just advertising and serves a design function it will serve more purpose to the consumer and have a louder voice in a time where people are looking for things to be optimistic. Like cut your 3,000,000 ad spend on the 30 second spot and give back 3,000,000 to a hurting charity or buy a wing in a non profit hospital.. or do something with it that increases your brand presence without being viewed as just another wasteful company out there.. And I've had it with the incentives for saving the world... These companies need to start being responsible without pitching in 5% of a purchase with a legal description that says for every other purchase or something that requires an illogical way about how your money buying a product will somehow end up in an aids charity. I think people are sick of it. And in these tough times they see through it, so if advertising is to survive the common sense factor needs to kick-in, do something with your ad-spends that actually helps the people your trying to reach and I bet they'll start listening.

    • Not too mention, grass roots moments like branding are about connecting people and feeling like part of a whole...
