1080p high definition video is 1920px by 1080px. Is that Maxent Plasma the display you will be using? if so, it's not full HD.

1080p = 1920 x 1080
720p = 1280 x 720the ones claiming 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 are going to be stretched or letter boxed since they are 16:9 and those listed resolutions are 4:3

and use a fast computer to run it off

its uses video as well
so would it be safe to say make the flash in 1920 x 1080 ?plus if they end up previewing it on a 32" as well will this cause any problems ?

It would be easier if you knew if the TV was 1080 or not but here's a solution which could work on either 720 or 1080. Just use any widescreen format (16:9). Make Flash go fullscreen.
But, here's the trick...bring in the images at much larger than the Flash Stage and then set smoothing to true. (allowSmoothing = true is done dynamically...or use the checkbox for allow smoothing in the library symbol's property panel). So, for example, if your Stage is 720x480 or whatever..bring the image in at larger than that (same proportions though)and scale down to the Stage size.

so gona go for the 1080 option because more likely to be shown on 42" - this sound ok?liveforever - Yeh, bigger is better. the 42" TV is most likely widescreen too. Make sure you set allowSmoothing so it will scale down gracefully.fyoucher1
- ...down gracefully...fyoucher1
- Also, allow smoothing has to be set for each image. It's not a global thing.fyoucher1
- yeh thanks - was always gona smooth but didnt know if it would distort the image if it has to be shrunken to fit a 32"liveforever

you can use this code to scale your images and video if you do not want to scale your entire flash movie...
http://blog.fryewiles.com/design…
it will keep everything in proportion too.
- code better than doing it manually ?liveforever
- how do you scale an image to a size you don't know manually?skt
- good point.
was thinking that the image is bigger than the canvas sizeliveforever - and then just ticking the box in the properties {in the library}liveforever

I design UIs for for 37" HD touch screens and they're 1920 x 1080.
And if you can use Flash player 10 - the older ones are S..L..O..W when dealing with large images.- cheers for the tip. will be exported as an executable anyway. does that matter ?liveforever
- it will be complied as per your version of Flash so CS3+maximillion_

The last touchscreen we interface we created we made it the same resolution as the monitor (1368x? or something weird), we then made the website the same proportion, but smaller.
All updates would be done to both and just scaled. Worked wonderfully.
HD as interaction is going to be tough, especially if you are ever going to the web (things will be really tiny, no?)
If there is no interaction, then I'd think about just using video. It should play smoother.
