I wonder if cracking down on this kind of thing will be happening a lot more so that the pirated company can get money during these economic times.

99% sure it was a snitch - the notice was specific on the apps installed on each desktop. not sure really under what jurisdiction it would fall under.
just the fact that half the time apps don't work because people accidentally run windows update which bugs everything out and i'm sure it's the same with adobe updates
- didn't really affect me since qbn was working just finebrandelec

"The Business Software Alliance (BSA), an industry trade group whose goal is to stem software piracy, announced today that five Canadian companies have paid over of $175,000 in damages to the BSA for having pirated software on their computers."seems the lot are design-related companies. wouldn't doubt adobe apps call for hefty fines

Since when can a watchdog group assign and collect fines? Isn't this what the judicial branch of the government is all about?
- They probably threaten a lawsuit and the companies settle...TheBlueOne

"asking for almost $.5M and would settle for $50k+"
Isn't that sort of thing simply called a "scam?"
"You owe us half a million dollars!! But we'll get off your back for 50k."
- i'm only assuming that's how it will unfold judging from past busts... no one seemed to pay more than 100kbrandelec

I worked at a studio that got busted as well, maybe seven years ago. They had legit versions of adobe and quark, but not MS and XP in the accounts despartment, ffs.

This is like Patrice (from "Keith and the Girl") leaving the job at the whore house a few weeks before they got busted by the police.
- harlequino0
How does one even get found out or proven to be doing that?
- ukit0
Who regulates this stuff anyway? The cops?
- ephix0
who fined them?

You're going to tell us about how you're going to walk into the owners office, cross your arms, lean against the door frame, smirk and say "So, how you doin'?"
- haha i actually asked if i could get a 'copy' of illustrator installed in one of the juniors' cpusbrandelec
- brandelec0
they're suspecting a former designer because the list was specific on creative apps: photoshop, illy, flash, corel, etc

Worked at a place few years back also with some pirated stuff. Felt like snitching on them after I had left also.
