@moamoa: No worries, I didn't take the "anti-design" comment negatively, it just happens to be one of my talking points. You know how some clients don't see "whitespace" they only see "wasted space" and it drives all of us crazy? I feel the same way about the web.
I'm surprised about the link-style comments. A few people have commented on the fact that they're all blue. Yea. They are. (In fact there are two subtly different shades: darker blue for internal links and lighter blue for links that open in a new window.) What is so shocking about a website where the user knows with absolute clarity what text is a link and what is not? (And to have that consistent across all pages and navigation to boot!)
It's easy to make links have a different color. A different background color. Underlines. Borders. Background images, font faces, type styles, animations, etc. Easy. But stripping that down into a minimal form with consistent logic? Difficult.
You mention that it reminds you of Flickr, Google, or Facebook . . . Companies that are seriously invested in making sites that users can navigate easily. I imagine that's a good thing ;)

I love the concept but I agree with the comment(s) about the blue text color. Tweak that and the site is solid gold in my opinion. :)

Yea. Coming from someone whose website is all about blue links!

I thought i'd leave a post because you were near the bottom of the list, and now you're not. Plus, I like your website.

That might be the sweetest thing I've heard all day :)

Ugh. I looked at my site on a PC last night for the first time in a long time. Heart breaking. I mean, the code all works so it's not a debugging issue, it's just that . . . the font anti-aliasing (or lack thereof) is so fugly. How can people use PCs all day? Doesn't it make their eyes bleed?
- +1 , used to work with a designer who thought it was better because it was "crisp"********

I dont know why but the movement of the images bothers me, but I guess it is just different. I feel as if it is a foreign language. Maybe it is above my head. It's all conceptual need to take more time looking through it. Interesting, very.

I really like the clean, clinical, logical approach. The 'design' aspect of this shines through on those points alone and I think (personally) that this is the key to good design. My only gripe would be that depending on how big my browser is the feature boxes re-align and when I first viewed it I just thought that they looked a little messy (5 columns). When I made my browser small and they aligned into 4 columns it looks alot tidier, I reckon this should be stuck that way.
I like it though!
- hmm looking at your grid, change that to 10 and 8 columns :p********
- I guess this is the idea of the site but a little fixed structure might go a long way********

Strangely I had a very similar idea (floating boxes) but type related...
Anyway, I really like the site feels different enough and reflects the style of your work very well.
The layout does not work so well when you are on the projects page... there is some very heavy negative space going on with some screen widths.... I do like the fact that I can almost redesign your site though.
As always good work.

@monNom: Wikipedia doesn't indicate what links open in a new window. They do indicate what links exit the Wikipedia "family." But I see your point about the links being clearly labeled.
I'm ok with the subtlety between the look of the internal links and external links on Stewdio. (Internal links are blue, external links are slightly lighter blue.) Users who overlook the tiny visual distinction aren't losing the bigger picture: the links are clearly links. Ok.
The distinction is only there for people like myself who are a bit OCD about organizing their browsing experience by grouping things in separate windows and ordering in tabs. It gives them some extra agency.

not a huge fan of the site itself, have always dug your work though...
I find something like this maintains that default feeling while keeping things a bit more interesting/engaging... http://www.gerritrietveldacademi…
- ha, didn't realise this thread was a year old... nevermind my bollocks...neue75_bold
- Made the same mistake. hahaha. :) My bad for not looking at the date. :)twistedfork
- I actually prefer the Stewdio site... It's not anti-design – the grid adds some designed structure.Amicus
- the tension is all wrong, something really awkward about it all, and not in a good way...neue75_bold

Hey man. :D I like it! Yea, I dont think it's anti-design, it's actually using design to give focus to the works. My only comment would be the choice of thumbnails / images... Better choice of screens perhaps?
- FAIL. didnt realize that this was a year old too. Yarh!twistedfork

Color me surprised. I didn't expect to wake up and see this thread from almost exactly a year ago at the top of the heap. Did I just experience lost time? Or travel backwards in time? ;)
Yes. I'll be at the Apple Store SoHo NYC on Monday, February 22nd to talk about Stewdio. Here are the details.
