Bay says its easy to make art films, but people dont get how hard it is to make Transformers. I think most people do understand it's a ton of work, the problem is movies that blow their load so hard with explosions and tons CGI, they just dont have lasting appeal. It's the nature of the type of movie. That part he doesnt get.
