Well... 'crash' may be a little strong of a word, more like a fender-bender. I was at a red light and got a superbly uncomfortably bump from a Range Rover behind me, that apparently couldn't stop in time on the icy road.
I'm fine, and my ride only suffered slight damage as well. Still annoying having to get it fixed, insurance stuff, and all that jazz.Made me think, does any of you have some horrific, glorious, chilling, death-defying stories from crashes that you've been involved in?

i was hit by a russian lady with no insurance, license, or green card about a month after getting my car. my insurance company was awesome and got everything taken care of in a week... and no rate increases at all.

My former GF and I were driving on Fathers’ Day ’93. It was late afternoon and the sun was low and right in our eyes. Neither of us saw the red light at the approaching intersection and we got T-boned by a cab. Both had concussion, whiplash, my legs were stuck as the engine had been pushed in about half a meter into the passenger’s side. The car was a write-off. Another 10th of a second and we’d both be dead, I reckon.
As it turns out, I went back to the site a few months later and noticed that the cab had been in a turning lane but he kept going straight. He was as much at fault as we were.
- Scary shit. Glad you're okay though.
(all cabbies are cunts)NotByHand - Thanks. Yeah, this one was.MrOneHundred

When i was a sophomore in high school, my mom was driving me to school on her way to work. About 3/4 mile down the road from our house was a stoplight. So we're approaching it and i remember that there were two large dump trucks stopped at the light to our left. My mom had the green light so we proceeded thru, going left.
As we're coming around to dump trucks a tractor-trailer comes barreling past the dump trucks and strikes us in the front driver-side corner spinning us almost 180degrees. He said that he had lost his brakes, but they sure seemed to work after he hit us, as he stopped almost immediately. His girlfriend was riding with him so there was some speculation that he was (ahem) distracted.
Messed up my mom's back pretty bad and i still have a 1" scar right below my bottom lip, but considering what could have happened, we considered ourselves very lucky.
The kicker is that i had had a dream about the accident (the exact same spot and being spun around ending up facing the exact same way) a week or two before, except in the dream we just got out of the car and walked home.

ran my 93 geo prizm into the back of a Lincoln Mark VII. My front end crumpled to hell, his car showed no signs of impact.

Was driving down a highway doing about 110k's and saw something black come in front of me, reacted by swerving to the left and the front tyre snagged on the kerb spinning us across the traffic. We spun about 3 times across the 4 lanes of traffic before sliding back across the road. We miraculously managed to hit the only pole around that saved us from going over an embankment by spinning us to a stop on the verge facing the way we'd come. We were about 100m down the road from where it all started and the car was still driveable.
The only injury was to me when my (now ex) fiancee punched me afterwards. My 8 month old son was in the back screaming but ok.
- Shit! With a kid in the back?! That's frickin scarylocustsloth
- wow. fucking scary.NotByHand

Oh, and I hit a kangaroo about a year ago. Luckily it was on the lowest part of its “hop” and went under the car. You non-AUs don’t want to know what happens if they hit on the highest part of their hop.

My brother-in-law put thousands into restoring an XC Falcon and stroking it out to 351... One day he was driving through the country, round a bend and drove straight into a flock of sheep doing well, well, well over the speed limit. Before he called the police / ambos etc. he called his mates so they could come and collect a few carcasses. We had a few great spit roast barbies for a while there. Didn't eat lamb for a couple of years once they were over though. :)
- Sick! (about the XC) (sick in a good way).MrOneHundred
- haha waste not, want not. Being a XC I'd be surprised if it wasnt fixable.slappy

When I was 18 I was in a crash where my car flipped upside down and slid off a 10m bank, and rolled back upright again. I climbed out without a scratch - bizarre.

Two car crashes, both boring. It was the near miss when I was a passenger and the driver fell asleep at the wheel that was scary. The car fishied across 6 lanes of traffic (both directions), then back across to the other side of the freeway, then did a 540 and stopped in the middle of the road pointing at oncoming traffic. FUCKING scary.
Having been a bicycle courier and a DH rider when I was younger, I have a few entertaining stories of cars hitting me while I was on bikes though, but they're stories for another thread...
