I can understand why many people don't get what all the fuss is about when it comes to Animal Collective, but personally I find them to be one of very few bands today that make truly emotional music. For whatever reason much of their discography does remind me of growing up in Maryland. But I think it's more that they spend the time to dig deep down and connect with music on a level that most people have a hard time believing even exists. So yeah, its probably not the most accessible band out there (although Merriweather isn't hard to get into) it's worth putting effort into repeated listens to hear where they are coming from.

I saw them a few years ago when they opened for Black Dice. I am wondering what some of the people who think Animal Collective "sounds weird" would think of that band;-)

I don't know if it's just me getting old and grouchy or what, but I can't stand anything with crummy vocals anymore. if you sound like a smurf with hiccups when you're singing, you need to step away from the microphone. Go knock on a wood block or something.

Ok, I've listened to this a few times now. I like it. I could see listening to it quite a bit. But if this is seriously supposed to be 'album of the year' or whatever, we're in for a really long year. It ain't that great.
