they're definitely an acquired taste...
lots of people just hearing them for the first time thinking WTF! this hype is nonsense, but to the fans who have been following and listening to their sound grow, MPP is an epic album.
that said, Sung Tongs is still my fav :)
- sorry duplicate post, not sure how that happened. ignore this.horton

I wasn't impressed either, thought it might have been more digestible without these annoying vocals.
I just gave it another try, developed a strong doubt removing vocals would help.

its a must to listen to their 9 albums.
9 albums in 9 years.Every over-hyped things got his load of haters. its normal. still, animal collective is a great band creating original and amazing stuff.

My roommate has been playing it nonstop. It sounds like an electronica influenced Beach Boys who have in turn been influenced by traditional African music. It sounds really contrived and I personally can't stand to listen to it.

if you find the vocals annoying don't bother listening again, or anymore AC for that matter.
they've always been way out-there leftfield, this album is just a little more accessible and now everyone is trying to like them because they think they're supposed to.

Its one of those bands I know they are not easy to listen to. I can perfectly understand people who hate them.
- and this is probably why i will be going to the concert alone.horton
- i don't need to convince any friends into becoming AC fanshorton
- and my wife definitely does not "get" them :)horton
- lol, last time i've saw them live, i was alone too! i dont know anyone who would come with mebenfal99
- and their shows are waaaayyyy more weirder than their albums. some was totally leaving the concertbenfal99
- and some were clapping after 10 mins of feedback. wtf.Chief

that video almost makes me hate them more!
Nothing original about tapping a prerecorded sound with your finger tip.

I'm a big fan of panda bear and this album sounds like they've blended a bit of that style in there. Reminds me of beach boys in some way.

I've tried to like them, but I just can't... There are a couple tracks that I don't mind off Merriweather, but yeah, not my bag... It's nice to be different and break new ground, but in my old age, I just like a good melody... I'll stick to my Do Make Say Think's and Mice Parade's if I'm in a post-rock mood...

The song in that YouTube video is absolute garbage.

Don't like. Same with the Shins. I liked them for about 1 week and then got bored. Vocals are very important to me.
- horton0
why on earth are people comparing animal collective with teh shins?

This sounds like dogshit. Self-indulgent even.
- Clearly not for everyone. This is a cult following. Don't worry, there will be a new U2 album out soon.CyBrain

It's the most popular album on our site by far at the moment. Can't say it does it for me though. Reminds me too much of trying to listen to Battles.
- Battles fucking ROCKS! In concert its pure blissbenfal99
- I was so-so on Battles, but they blew me away at Lollapalooza.joeth
- indeed moth, was thinking the same...neue75_bold
