I got my wife a Nikon CoolPix these last year. Well, this is an updated model but same idea. Sometimes the shots can be a bit blurry but I'm more than willing to concede user error. :/

as for the "just use film" suggestions i have a canon F1, lomo lca, and a few TLRs when i have that urge (not often)

While I'm shopping for a DSLR, I still wouldn't mind also picking up a newer carry-around.
I've had this since 2006
It's been a great camera and still great for a carry-around. Excellent in daytime light. At the time it was the only point and shoot with a 10x optical zoom - I love it for that reason.

If have one of these just to carry around, an amazing camera from under $100- bucks, great macro shots to.

- Fuck am I paying 2K for that. Mug game if you ask me. What inside that make it worth 2Kroundabout
- the inside is def not worth 2K. panasonic is still crap. stick to canon powershot/ixus.stewart
- Panasonic = crap? Really? I was always pleased with Panasonic products.non

looking to keep it under a couple hundred, and "great macro shots" caught my interest!!

I would recommend a small cannon, or nikon. They each have great optics and controls, and come in 8-10 megapixels at an affordable price.

I'd look into getting a cheaper canon that supports a hacked firmware providing extra functionality (it's quite easy to do)
