Saw the quit smoking thread, wondered if anyone has been able to give up drinking. I won't miss getting drunk per say, but a lot of my social life revolves around bars, clubs and just chilling while drinking.

i haven't given it up totally, but i've cut back dramatically. went from going out 3-4 times a week. i started by not going out for a few months at all. i've gone out the past month a couple of times. sometimes i drank a little while i was out, sometimes not at all.
anything is possible with enough willpower.

never occurred to me

I gave it up. Was more difficult than quitting smoking.
Huge lifestyle change but it's been great. Lived in the pub for 10 years and now I actually live my life and spend quality time with wife and family. Some people have figured out how to do both but I don't have that luxury.

I don't wanna stop going out, but enough people have told me I get pretty out of control, and it's causing some tension...

yea, i haven't drank in almost 4 years. you should be excited about this considering i would have stolen all your belongings and had sex with your family members prior.

@epigraph / ruffian
that's basically why i cut back. ive gotten into too many fights, blacked out too many times, and gotten a DUI. enough was enough for me.
shit starts to get scary when you wake up in your car in an unknown place, and wonder how the fuck you got there. :(

Cutting back for sure next year.

It's wise to heed the warnings because shit can get bad fast.
It's like we all have a certain number of drinks we are allowed to consume in our lifetime. But, if you drink hard and fast you can reach that limit at an early age. It seems like the people who have reach it and keep drinking become poisoned and decay physically and mentally.
Not good.

i concur. i prefer to think of it as an imaginary line that someone like myself has stepped over, while most other people will never have to worry about it in their lifetime for whatever reason.

It can be hard when all your friends are just as bad.
Good luck.

I try to make myself only drink and smoke on weekends. Week to week it rarely happens that way.

might as well quit having fun...

i didnt know not drinking was a choice.

I would consider doing this even less than I would consider quitting smoking.

I decided to quit my friends who had nothing better to do than drink. I mean drink every night until they passed out and start drinking again before breakfast - buh bye!
My life has been so much more fun since then! I still drink occasionally, but I'm under control. You know you are out of control when you can have a couple of bottles of spirits a night and still seem sober to everyone.

Great some people who quit drinking.
I quit drinking over 2 years ago, and must say I do not miss it one bit, cant stand the hangovers and the forced alchohol social life that everyone is a slave to.
Took a while to find alternatives though......
I'm now a crack addict
