I pay my loans every month like most of you too, and I know I chose to go to school and borrow money to pay for it, but I did not come up with 'bailout'. Ever since the government decided to 'help' every organization (soon it will be states ...like Cali) has taken advantage of this and asked for help. So far, it has worked, thanks to us and our money, auto makers and banks are still in business and their CEOs keep earning six figures salaries or requesting bonuses.

Thanks to all of you who emailed and offered help for the site. Who else here would like to volunteer to get this site rolling? You can even think of this as a collaborative project with other designers... Many of you always complain that we designers never do anything together or get to work on interesting projects, why not start here? Email me if you're interested.

Education should be free.

I can't believe you guys are serious about this.

This whole "get yours" attitude is horrible.

I am pretty sure these are the countries that offer free (or very subsidized) education.

d_rek, what amount did you borrow, about $40k?

"yep. I borrowed the money, I promised to pay it back. It's the path I chose, why should anyone have to bail me out?
If nothing else, what this effort will succeed in doing is perpetuating a stereotype that our generation is a pampered bunch of selfish assholes who feel entitled to anything and everything without having to work, sweat or otherwise earn our positions in the world of grown-ups. Despite reality."What a dumb response. Why should anyone bail you out? Because it's the interest of our nation. Because having an educated workforce is good for everyone. Someday people are going to realize that having an educated and healthy population is a GOOD thing, something to fight and sacrifice for above all else.
I have to agree with eryx...the Baby Boomers enjoyed incredibly cheap college education thanks to Government subsidy. That generation now holds almost all of the earning power. THEY had the world handed to them...the education, the jobs, the resources....Generation X and Y are now dealing with the mess they have caused. From electing President Bush to fucking up the Financial system, the Baby Boomers can eat shit. The Me-Generation will go down as one of the most disasterous in history, if anyone is brave enough to admit it.

That's not even mentioning how difficult it is to get a job without a college degree these days.
The path you "chose" huh? Or the path the economic environment chose for you...A college degree is barely sufficient these days.

If you give someone home or a car you giving them something that they can sell for cash right away. This messes up the economy, you have an assets that you can convert to cash. Then there is Taxes, upkeep, insurance and all sorts of sub-industries that are tied to these specific markets. If the price of a house or car fluctuates to much it effects these sub-industries negatively.
If you pay off peoples education you don't have a tangible asset that will end up back in the market. You can't sell your education back to someone for a profit or a loss. By this token it is not worth anything to anyone else except in what you can provide in the form or services. You will not get all this money in a lump some but you will have a larger net income over time. Slowly you will be able to afford more.
It is a stable way to stimulate the market!

I have a better idea. Why don't we just reset everything? Declare the dollar null and void and come up with a new currency. All debts can be wiped out, and we can start fresh for a new century.
I'm starting a Facebook group right now yo!
