Assuming you still have a 5D, I would get the 16-35mm f2.8 L or 17-40mm f4 L. I have the 17-40L on my 5D and it rocks for landscapes, interiors etc.
- I have same setup as you, 5D, 17-40L, 24-70L, 70-200L as my main setup.slappy
- so not the 50mmimnotadesigner
- I have a Sigma 50mm f1.4, its has incredibly smooth bokeh, also as creamy as Canon 50mm f1.2Lslappy

Yep, if you can afford the 14mm L then that might be cool too. The wide angle is so great down alley ways, around tight streets and indoors. Also cool if you're shooting any skating etc as its like a fisheye without the fish at the wide end and looks nice.
You could also look at a fisheye, I love mine!

hows the 17-40 in low light?

The 17-40L is a whole stop slower than the 16-35L but I don't tend to use the 17-40 for shooting high speed in the dark. When I'm shooting a gig I will use the 24-70, 50mm f1.4 and 70-200 as its dark and I need the speed to freeze the action. The subject is usually people where the narrow DOF of the 2.8 lenses is quite effective.
If I'm shooting wide at night I will be using a tripod and f7-f11 anyhow, as I usually want everything in focus. f2.8 is so narrow that its not that useful on a wide angle.
The 17-40 uses 77mm filters which is handy as 24-70 and 70-200 also use 77mm filters. This means I only need one CPL, and a couple of ND's for most of my line up. The Sigma 50mm f1.4 I have also uses these size filters.

Slappy does the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 produce flare at night? I have the Canon version and it likes to mirror lights from opposite corners, it's annoying sometimes.

I thought the 18-55 was an EF-S lens? How does this work on a 5D?
If you want to shoot good portraits get the 50 or 85mm. 50mm for wider portraits with more background, or the 85mm for tighter 'headshots'. I think the 85mm is more expensive though. What about the 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.8, not L lenses but still very very good. Or do you want L glass only?
But if you want to shoot good landscapes or interiors get the 17-40.

dont be stupid 50 F1.2

Dont waste your money, buy the 1.4's of both the 50 and the 85 and youll be much happier. Cuz then you can buy a new camera with the money youll save.
Ive assisted for a couple big guys in toronto and also work as a full time capture assistant and I dont see the difference in lenses. Ya the 85mm 1.2 is fucking nice. But really, If your not shooting pro, dont waste the money.
Just an Idea, Go test the lenses with your cam at a store. Through the files up on your computer and see for yourself.
Im actaully selling a 1 year old canon 17-40mm and a canon 1Dmrk II. Anyone want em!
