Thanks all. This is for my fiancée to run some win-only interior design software. Also google sketchup she uses crashes on both of our macs. I'm not sure she needs to ever get this installation to connect online, but would rather be sure it is safe to do.
Installing AVG now, I think I never had any problems using it in the past..

You probably installed XP to play some games. Leave the rest to OS X.

Kaspersky is really fully featured (lots of control).. not free.

You don't need any. Just don't click on free iPhone offers.

Norton is the biggest, bloated piece of shitty bothersome software I've ever encountered, and I swear it causes more problems than it solves....
- +1. the uninstallation is a nightmare. maybe things are fixed now. i've stayed a way....jaylarson
- not only that - it slows down the whole OS to the point you want to disable it...moth
- I would not have touched it until a year ago or so, it's pretty light and stable now. Avoid Norton 360 like the plague tho.Jnr_Madison

Another vote for AVG, plus as said earlier Zone Alarm

Norton is the best now.
Spybot fell off a while ago (was great at first, though).

ESET NOD 32 or ESET SMART SECURITY are the best but there not free

AVG & Zone Alarm used to be the standard free AV/Firewall stuff for Windows.
Then spybot and AdAware for malware etc. There's a lot of different stuff out there now just as good tho.
- I run NIS & SuperSpywareBlaster and I've never had a problem.Jnr_Madison
- I'm just about to bootcamp my new MBP and will install NIS and SSB.Jnr_Madison

I just installed Windows XP through bootcamp. What free antivirus or other protection software should I install there before connecting it to the internet?
