is it hard to for a uk designer to get a job over there?
- set0
how long is a piece of dick
- bolus0
it depends.
- Gordy220
All depends on the visa you manage to get. I think the best is an H1B but they're like gold dust.
One way is to get a job at a UK company with US offices and after a while apply for a transfer.

If your a graphic designer then I know from personal experience that it's difficult and expensive for the company. Even if the company does offer u a job and pay for your H1B visa than you still don't have a 100% chance of getting the visa as it's a selection process and say you got your application in for April you wouldn't be able to start working until October, it's a long process.
I can't imagine that many NY companies would be willing to splash out for visa at the moment with the current work crisis, but you never know.

easiest way?
hook up with an american girl.

I agree with MissB and Gordy. It's tough over here as a web designer already, so locking in a visa only complicates the idea much more. Unless of course you're amazing (link to site please). We hired a talented interactive designer from Korea a few years ago, but the Visa hassles made it less appealing to keep her on. And that was during a nice little economic boom.
Find a UK firm.

Aujim, keep in mind it can take a long time to sort. To get the Visa I got (E2), you've to prove to the US Government that only you can do the job over in the US. I'd been with my company for 4 years so it was pretty easy but if you're a lot less than that (which you will be) it could pose a problem.

Dont forget O visa. But you need to provide evidence that you are extra ordinary including awards won, recommendation letter from industry leaders, etc
I would suggestion you find a good lawyer to see where you stand.
http://www.fragomen.com/ there is a location near you. When you meet or talk with potential employer, saying that you are in knowledge of the process will help them. The times are tough and most employers are not willing to pay or get someone from out of country.

Finding a UK firm with branch in US differs in situation.
You can get a transfer visa but you must be at the home location for at least 1 year. You can also get temporally visa which your job function is for you to travel to US but not based in US.
If I were you, I would aim for transfer visa because after you stay at home office for 1 year and come to US for 1 year, you are eligible for greencard. For transfer visa greencard applicant, it takes abou 3 months versus 5-6 years for normal process (that is if you are approved). Also, transfer visa is the easiest visa you can get if you get approved by the company.
- Costs $5k in Lawyers fee's tho' which is a shit. Also, most of the UK guys here have taken 6 months.Gordy22
- JSK0
Really for transfer visa? 5K? Mine cost $3k including document prep, border crossing prep and post follow up.
6 months sounds about right. Its usually because it goes through the company process. The actual time for me to provide document to them and getting it back so I can take it to the airport took about a month. And 5 min with the immigration agent at the airport to approve.
- JSK0
That $3k includes $600 (i think) for visa fee that I paid when I got it.
- Gordy220
JSK - all my mates are being conned.
Got your Lawyers detauls?
- JSK0
I used the guys in NY. I know a paralegal at Fragomen and she connected me. I never saw my lawyer or talked to one. Just through paralegal. Consult a paralegal because they are cheaper then lawyers. Talking to lawyer will always cost so much more. Only reason I went though Fragomen was because they are big international firm but relatively not that expansive.
This is a good list for best immigration lawyer in NY. Note the most of them are Fragomen. One of my lawyer is in the list.
http://www.bestlawyers.com/nymet…You can try to contact the UK office. BUT from experiences at Paris office, I would rather directly talk to them here in NY since language is not an issue.
