Been building up a good buffer the last couple of years, so 5 or 6 months before the well would dry out.
But, if I was myself only, I would live from one week to the next, blowing all my cash on booze, women and drugs!

I managed to go about 3 weeks before being foreclosed on, even then had to scrape together the money for a moving truck and deposit on a rental.
I should be bitter and angry about losing 20k on the house, but I'm in pretty good health, I've got a gorgeous daughter and a wife whom I love more everyday, the sun shines and things are looking up. I gave up smoking and feel fitter than I have in years, if I get a lot to eat I enjoy it, if not I enjoy losing weight.
Im fucked if any of this nonsense is going to spoil my buzz.

1 year, give or take a week.

I can probably go on for 4yrs without working if I move out of NYC to let's say, Ohio and my rent is under $500. If I stay in my current apartment, it'll be about 2yrs. For now, my plan is to go to Thailand for 1yr if I get laid off.

haven't read the responses, but I think everyone should have at least 6 months good to go just "in case." My step-dad is a financial consultant and has recommended closer to a year, but that's not realistic for everyone.
I probably have about 6 months, but will be incurring some "expenses" this holiday season that may dip into that fund.

i'd probably last a week with my spending habits and student loans
although those will be gone in about a year :D
