So an Agency phoned me up two days ago, they inform me about a position that has become available at a media company who deal with video production. It turns out they have allot of web design and marketing material coming in and need a graphic designer to help them expand, and there might be some basic video work on the side to put online.
I spend almost two days preparing my portfolio and dealing with the Agency and then today go to the interview which cost me nearly £30 in petrol only to be informed that the position is for a experienced video editor only, and someone that has allot of experience doing the job. WTF. No need for a graphic design at all. I have now found out that the Agency that phone me have no experience in the design field what so ever, and do not have a basic understanding of what a fucking Graphic Designer does. When I was at the Agency yesterday she insisted she had relevant experience in the creative industry, and even showed me some media companies who are on there books. Turn out it's all bullshit. I'm so fucking angry right now.

lol i went to an interview for an seo position with a leeds based agency
i talked about my wide variety of experience from webd esign through seo to accessability etc and explained that ive had over 10 years SEOing sites of various shapes and sizes in almost every industry with great success. Ive also experience of managing a team and client facing consulting and training which was part of the requirement.
my feedback was "we've shortlisted 2 people who are s#it hot at seo" and you're not one of them...
i believe theyre still looking lols

I once got sent, many years ago to Zomba Records to be interviewed for a position there. I was a graphic designer at the time. The agent described the job as "Creative Director of the design department". The job was "Maintenance and development of Zomba's new website".
Me, managing a website, in these trousers?

the whole point of using an agency is to try and screw the woman who's helping you. If you don't know that then you're all backwards.

Sad-but-true, indeed.
We've been contacted by several agencies over the past 3 yrs. One agency in particular (who will remain anonymous) contacted us w/ a site redesign, and insisted that we quote them (which they would then return to their client) at a ridiculously-high level. I knew right away that this would not fly—I knew this particular client would not accept an estimate even close to the amount in question.
Well, like good boys, we did what was asked of us, and were told not to worry about the amount, as the account manager would deal w/ it, and they had complete confidence that the proposal would be accepted. I knew it would never fly. We were told to make a few amendments to the estimate, which we did.
The agency never got the job, we were treated unprofessionally, and in-the-end, the project went to what I think was a freelancer.
Goes to show, that even the "best-and-brightest" studios, are run by people that can't handle even the most basic of communications. Egos run amuck, and things like this happen.

how about training interns that end up replacing you? thats a fun agency trick..
"here's how to do what i do for 1/2 the rate in 2 weeks when i get laid off, say hello to your mother for me"
