is it for kmart homebrand or a decent brand?
- blankeyecue0
@marychain: i was even thinking to have just one board for payment since i like bodyboarding as well...
@airey: they provided me with sample logos already...i dunno if ill be illustrating but pro'ly typography playing on existing logos...its for a pretty decent brand...they have products on diff sites..so must be pretty big...

$100 per boards + a model of each
- sublocked0
bodybags? the newest design trend? killa...
- akrokdesign0
thats like a $10/hr. lol.
- blankeyecue0
@georgesII: $100 per board series + model of each?....i dont want so many boards...I cld sell them <--possible...
@akrokdesign: so how much would you charge?
- monNom0
charge more than that. 100 dollars doesn't cover admin and invoicing, let alone design and production. Don't forget that money is taxable @ 30% (or whatever)

Well, say you whore yourself out at $50 per hour. Each logo takes you 5 hours. that's $250, minimum.
If this guy's only doing a really limited run then his budget is probably limited too, but if he's going to mass-produce these fuckers he'd be better off forking out for the quality now, rather than experience poor sales as a result of using designs that were whipped up in 20 minutes. Put it to him that way and he will probably be willing to spend a little extra...
- airey0
10k and you want 87% of the gross sales figures.
- akrokdesign0
well, if you have to make a living. at least 40 bucks an hour. of course if your super fast and it only takes a hour, then i would recommend a set fee, instead.
there tax you have to pay also. around 30 to 33%
- akrokdesign0
you have to know your hourly rate. thats basic pimping. :-)
- blankeyecue0
ok..looks like i have my rate now...
would it be ok for them to use the designs i made for boards to be printed on shirts?

- that would be RE-PRODUCE. depends if there a contract or not.akrokdesign
- if its okay with you, then yes.akrokdesign
- you should try to make it separate projects doh so you can gain some extra cash. for the set up. :-)akrokdesign

Heres an update...they offered me $35 - $50 per design!!..wtf!..
My price was ($250) per design....What do you guys think?
- ukit0
I don't know much about bodyboards, but that sounds ridiculously cheap to me. I guess you could go ahead and do it if you want the work in your folio, but might as well work for free at that price.

Unless you can complete each board design in about 15 seconds you should present them with a serious bird.

Point out all your overhead: software licensing, software training, internet connection, computer, office space, electric, professional conferences, taking people to lunch, wild parties for clients, subscriptions to fancy design journals, fonts, font licensing, intellectual property attorney, furniture rental, accountant, business software, etc., etc., etc., until you wear him down to paying $50/hour for the 10 hours each board is going to take.
