you could also go to Mountain Creek in jersey..it's like 1 hr away.
good for a quick day trip.

Hunter is your best bet. Mountain Creek for the day. Killington has a good party crowd in town...I usually go boarding in White Face (Lake Placid) it's a hike, but they usually have good deals during for the midweek, and it a much nicer mountain.
$99 per person per night
Package includes a Room at Lake Placid's Largest and Most Complete Resort Hotel and a Lift Ticket at Whiteface Mountain. Pay for 3 nights on this Package and we will include a 4th night's Lodging and a 4th day of Skiing Free. This Package does not include breakfast. The Crowne Plaza Resort Lake Placid

i havent been on the slopes since 1989...
i had a bad accident at sterling forest, i broke my wrist, thumb broke in 4 places, cracked lelft clavicle and tore some ligaments in my shoulder...it was a glorious day though, it was me and 11 others, the weather was 68 degrees and most of the snow was ice and slush, but we were troopers and stupid at the time and all of us fell in the same spot a 45 foot area of just ice, all of us came down on it hard... i was in rehab for 7 months... and then another 4 months of rest...
we used race for that mountain... and that day they lost their entire ski team...
hahaha
oi
i miss sitting in the lodge smoking a joint by the fireplace bonfire and eating nachos and cheese all melted and drinking hot chocolates!!!

most board shops have decent deals on one day bus trips. get on the bus at 2am, sleep while they drive upto vermont, wake up board all day, get back on the bus and back to the city around 11pm.

where is that?
- refunktion0
how icy is it, really? like how many days would you go up and just expect to be riding on ice in the NE?
I live in the bay area and ride all over the lake tahoe area, sometimes dealing with the crowds.... how are the crowds up there? like at say... mountain creek or hunter mountain?
- yes, the snow and crowds and mountains are shit compared to the west.Douglas

For me, Hunter is too far for a day trip and Mountain Creek is overrun with people. You might want to consider Hidden Valley........
- neue75_bold0
way back in the day I used to go to riding at Bristol Mountain and Holiday Valley... both pretty shit though and still probably quite far from nyc...

thanks douglas...
im used to mt hood (oregon) crowds (horrid on the weekends) and sometimes crowds at various places in lake tahoe, but i am just wondering if i am going to be ok and get my fix without dealing with ice every time (im consider a move to the east). also... is it like nuts to assume i can have a car in the city? cause i need to get out of it here and there.

try to get on the Blade bus. that skateshop on broadway runs a bus every week end to hunter departing from few places in NYC. It is cheap and very cool.

I am sorry to say (as a born and raised new englander) that the snow here is almost entirely dependent on el nino years (i.e. one in five are fantastic, the rest are pretty much ice). At least, as a snowboarder, you can have a bit more fun on oddity terrain, and even small mountains have good little spots.
The best in New England is Stowe, hands-down. It is a long ride from New York and Boston, but well worth it for a three day weekend. Otherwise, we used to share a house with a bunch of nyc friends up at Mount Snow (the best deal on a pass is for that set of mountains: Mount Snow, Killington, etc.), but it got pretty old with crowds, conditions, and the nice little flat stretch plunk in the middle of the mountain (no getting around it).
In my older and wiser years, I head out when the weather is good, and otherwise save up vacation for an annual visit to Powder Mountain (which has become much more simple now that I work for myself).
- Some of my best days have been at Stowe. If you're in the east you can't beat Vermont (or Mt Tremblant)Tungsten
