I am sorry to say (as a born and raised new englander) that the snow here is almost entirely dependent on el nino years (i.e. one in five are fantastic, the rest are pretty much ice). At least, as a snowboarder, you can have a bit more fun on oddity terrain, and even small mountains have good little spots.
The best in New England is Stowe, hands-down. It is a long ride from New York and Boston, but well worth it for a three day weekend. Otherwise, we used to share a house with a bunch of nyc friends up at Mount Snow (the best deal on a pass is for that set of mountains: Mount Snow, Killington, etc.), but it got pretty old with crowds, conditions, and the nice little flat stretch plunk in the middle of the mountain (no getting around it).
In my older and wiser years, I head out when the weather is good, and otherwise save up vacation for an annual visit to Powder Mountain (which has become much more simple now that I work for myself).
- Some of my best days have been at Stowe. If you're in the east you can't beat Vermont (or Mt Tremblant)Tungsten
