Just returned from a VERY lively protest rally in long beach, ca. 1000's of people turned out for the event, which according to the cops, was an illegal assembly. Total bullshit. Several people arrested etc. All of them with batons in their hands just waiting to crack some protester skull. The right to peaceful assembly my ass.
Pics to come.
Another HUGE rally in LA tomorrow though, everyone in the area needs to turn out.
I hate to caveat the part about me not being gay, I wish I were, believe me. I understand men far better than I do women.
I just cant believe the idea of crafting laws to take rights away from citizens. Laws should be made to protect our rights. the mormon church donated almost half the money in the campaign to pass prop 8. if their going to be involved in politics, they should lose their tax exempt status.
Ok, as you were.

@ VectorMasked: the comment thingy is too short for a proper response. I'm not "against" mormons on principle. In fact I have lots of family that are mormon. For the most part the individual people are incredibly nice and genuine. But as a collective, I disagree with the idea that a church or organization of any kind be tax exempt if they are actively preaching and contributing money to politics.
I think if you're going to be a tax-exempt religious organization, you better damn well keep those free dollars outside the lobbying that goes on in legislation.
Mormons, well yeah...I have my issues. But as I said, many in my family are so. They are all incredibly open minded and decent people, not a judgmental bone in their genetically perfect mormon bodies ;), I guess its all that clean living, but Utah consistently has the lowest rates of cancer etc.
I can only say, why the fuck would an organization based in Utah pump millions of dollars into legislation based in california. total b.s.

I truly believe however, that the homosexual rights movement will be seen as a civil rights movement. And as such, will be eventually rooted out as pure evilness. Just as rights granted to women, black people, minorities of all creeds, gay rights will eventually be recognized as fundamental to our culture.
It's important to put some historical perspective into the struggle. Give it 30 years, and we will all eventually come around to the idea that everyone deserves equal rights.
Certainly not making laws to take rights AWAY from people. That's just fucked. Laws should be in place to protect people from being treated differently despite their lot in life. Protecting the minority from the majority, that is the true american spirit.- it is going to take time man, to get people to see past 'values' instlled in them, & understandakoni
- homosexual rights=civil rights movement? Bounce that one off a few black folks and see what happensb_electro
- the civil rights movement isnt exclusive to black people. duh! god that comment was laughable.threadpost

@threadpost
Absolutely. Totally agree on the whole thing on taxes and politics.
This sort of thing should not be allowed. Personal beliefs or goals should not interfere with the lives of other people. It is just wrong imo that a church or group of people with unique beliefs dare to control somehow politics and the way we as people try to live our lives. As to the whole Mormon thing... I do have my issue. I've never ever had a single pleasant experience with any of them. Even the relatives that practice that religion. If was even suffocating for me. From my experience with Mormons which is “a lot”, I had the chance to meet some stupid, arrogant, fake, narrow-minded and extremely cynical people in that church. Some do have their own good side, but as a general rule, they freak out rather easily since their lives are so limited and restricted.
I do not hate them... but they by nature, like to get in the way of things... as we are seeing with the whole prop 8. Sadly, Mormons are taught from their youth that they should interfere and insist on converting other people to Mormonism and never take "NO" for an answer. They tend to nurture the whole concept of "we are better than them coz we are Mormons" and "world domination".
Can be scary at times. It is in a way a nicely presented cult.- lets just be very thankful it wasn't mitt romney instead of McCain. Dude could have had a better run. Scary.threadpost
- Scary indeed.
VectorMasked - *btw I wasn't trying to be offensive toward Mormons. Just in case I came accross as a narrow-minded prick* :o)VectorMasked
- of course! i totally get it. growing up among mormons is a very challenging thing, not every1 can understandthreadpost
- Agrees with VectorMasked on all accounts. Objection overruled.Lillebo

I just don't understand why this country cant learn from its past.
It seems like we are always fighting so hard to progress.I don't want to put all the blame on religion, but from what I have seen regarding this issue; religion seems to be the big hurtle.
Just curious, where in long beach was this?
Long beach is my second home :)- True on your second sentence. Look at the president-elect and the 43 before him.omgitsacamera
- But hey, it's progress.omgitsacamera

I have absolutely nothing against the gay community. But the people of California voted for Prop. 8, which bans same-sex marriage. Get over it, carry on, stop your whining already.
- wtf... it's not that simple for some. Get others to choose your lifestyle based on personal beliefs and shit... it kinda sucksVectorMasked
- it's not a lifestyle, it's a legal status. people are free to live pretty much any way they wanta_iver
- fusionpixel0
Good for California. Hopefully more states follow their example.

being the lover of black cock that I am, I applaud your efforts...

it's not a matter of one crazy church, it's every major conservative christian organization against what they believe to be a major part of their beliefs.
http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsr…the argument won't end with proposition 8 just as abortion arguments didn't end with roe v. wade.
the answer is not to slander and hate, the answer is to elect politicians who represent you and change the laws we live by.
- btw i don't support prop 8 necessarily, BUTcuke426
- I DO think the people should make the decisions and not judges.cuke426
- the people can say what they want, but the judges must provide equal protections to every1. thats the constitutionthreadpost

Prop 8 resulted into fights between the Polynesians and everyone else, heavy arguments on facebook and an incident where a girl was pushed down onto the street, beaten and SPIT on for her views.
Sounds like Civil Rights 2.0..
- Meeklo0
I didn't know about the mormon church putting all that money in that campaign, that is messed up.
Church should stay away from politics.
Don't they believe that they will be judged and sent to hell if promote discrimination ?Make up your mind, do you want to see paradise or do you want to be in hell.
- iCanHasQBN0
i hope religion dies and burns in hell.
- akrokdesign0
i think there might be some people who was for it but voted wrong based on the question and the answer. no has a neg. meaning. yes has a positive. these questions should be written clearly and not try to trick people.
i seen yes signs (which are against it) in alhambra, which there mainly asians.
meanwhile in santa monica there was plenty of (no on 8).
by the way, i thought it would passes. (as no on 8)
- I was thinking the same.
They should use "vote NO discrimination"Meeklo
- I was thinking the same.
- Meeklo0
I think it was an error on grammar too, (or at least I want to believe that) Everyone can relate to this, in one way or another we all went to some sort of discrimination, even mormons (oh the irony).
The should be more aggressive and point out, that mormons convinced everyone that people of african descend were marked by the devil and could never enter paradise. Now they are trying to convince you that homosexuals shouldn't have rights.
