Terrible. Utter waste of money, and we all know, A LOT OF FUCKING MONEY.
Some "brand architects", invoiced for 3/4 of million for this is my guess. Bullshit.
What is w/ the need to fix something that is not broken? UPS did it a few years ago and ruined Paul Rand's masterpiece, Pepsi just did it, etc.
Some of these brands had iconic marks, and the last thing they needed to do was embark on a re-design.
Money would be much better spent improving the actual product, or how about the customer service? Hey, great idea: why not use that 1/2 million and HIRE SOME PEOPLE TO ANSWER THE PHONE.

- The rebrand of UPS was justified, shut up. The package and ribbon was out of date.marchelo
- Out of date? Really? Please present your statistical data and findings on this claimcraighooper

^ Agree
It would be interesting to see one of these global agencies that land a contract like this to stand up and say there is no need for a change.

I'm not trying to scream timeline! or insinuate that I am some kind of all-knowing design oracle, but isn't this news really really old? I'm sure I recall seeing this at least 6 months ago, likely from here somewhere...

There is time where they need to change. It is a great way to refresh the brand, and I am sure Paul Rand knew his stuff wouldn't last forever.
- But Master Cards new brand blows.univers
- they haven't rebranded

This is old. There's even a discussion about this on the UnderConsideration blog that's from the Summer of 2006: http://www.underconsideration.co…

and it's not the new identity, so no worries
- Yeah, that's for the corporate division, not for the consumer end.Josev

From the Identityworks site:
This is not a new MasterCard brand logo -- it is a new corporate identity, for the "principal operating subsidiary" of MasterCard Inc. previously named MasterCard International. It has been widely critiqued as if it were the new brand mark.Futurebrand designed it and it was launched in June 2006.
It looks like you're looking at a mazda tail light through a rainy window.

Seriously, this makes the Pepsi logo look like a 4 gold star design... Mastercard... This design is shit and you know it, you fucking suck.

Launched: June 28, 2006
Design: FutureBrandThis is not a new MasterCard brand logo -- it is a new corporate identity, for the "principal operating subsidiary" of MasterCard Inc. previously named MasterCard International. It has been widely critiqued as if it were the new brand mark. I will review it more fully when I have talked with its planners and designers.
