Oh man that sounds terrible. I LOVE Oldboy. Such a good film.

plain stupid and insulting for the original and whoever is going to watch the remake. these films are modern classics.
this is going to be like my sassy girl.

he was also talking about remaking the karate kid - with his son playing the part of daniel.
people have actually started a petition demanding it not be made:

I love Oldboy, but, is there a precedent for Hollywood fucking up asian films? Not really, in the right hands they do an excellent job actually.
Off the top of my head:
The Ring - better than the original.
Fistfull of Dollars - not as good as Yojimbo, but good.
The Departed - far superior to the original

"The Ring - better than the original."
WTF? It sucked and has loads of nonsense about a horse farm that added nothing and was only included to make the director feel less soulless- agree, Ring Japan was better, but different stylesjfletcher
- nah it had Naomi Watts, it was better.ThePublics

‘The Departed - far superior to the original’
I couldn't disagree about something more. A dire, wholly pointless remake that merely injected celebrity and swish.
Well, I could—but only on matters of import, like Mac vs. PC or Illustrator vs. Freehand

Lol. Spielberg couldn't be more wrong as a director, never mind Will Smiff. This won't get made.

Why do you care? They aren't ruining the original. The original will stay in tact. It's not like they're re-releasing it with new CGI scenes spliced in.
Everyone knows it won't be as good as the original, including the people who are making it. Who cares? No one is forcing you to watch it. Just ignore it.
One of the benefits of these remakes is that they end up giving a much wider exposure to the original. Tons of people who would otherwise never see the original will see the trashy remake, love it, and proceed to find the original. It's not such a bad thing.

- I generally am always curious about remakes, because if they're good, it's often very interesting.dopepope

Why do I care?
Erm because its another example of studio execs making creative decisions and greenlighting v.bad ideas...
You used to have a creative team pitch movie ideas that studios decided whether to make or not... the system is now the reverse.
Studio execs twiddle their thumbs and think oooh that was cool - lets remake it.
Just shows a complete lack of creativity within the studio system and and I hate to say it but another example of America's decline.
Bring back the heyday of creative US cinema - the 1970s...- There are plenty of great movies being made. Watch them, stop complaining.nb
