You like what I did there? I merged the word filter with...anyway, you get the idea...

This is fucked. Give people the option. Just another political correctness bullshit law introduced in this over governed piss poor so called democracy of a country.

That's bullshit!

Well, the fun can't last forever. The internet will end up just like everything else in the world, some of it regulated while some will make it under the radar. My say: learn how to circumvent that system STAT... ;)

They are spending $189 million to stop people from wanking off?

Wow... getting as bad as China!

broadband is already fuckin expensive and to make it worse, it'll be filtered. great.
- kezza_20
I kind of think it's needed for it to exist in the future.

Fuck that

wow, the way things are heading, people are allowed to physically have sex, but not allowed to watch it.
doesnt seem right really does it
- chossy0
It would not bother me atall. I am not into seeing dead bodies, rape, murders and child porn so the filter would not affect me if I was to live in australia, I would not complain about restricted access to these things.
- I'd rather decide for myself thankstoe_knee
- Like I said, the ban wouldn't effect me. I'm not into it so not being exposed to it wouldn't be an issue for me.chossy

- and what about when the totalitarian state arrives and you aren't allowed to talk to who you want?ribit
- Frosty_spl0
but what do they consider "illegal". If you like visiting a car website that has streetracing videos, they could block that as well.
- chossy0
Nah I think what you would call illegal would be bomb making, rape, dead fucked up people, child porn and porn which involves torture and shit like that.
All this shit is available in a library and from DVD's and things like that, which have an age restriction on the access to them, now the internet has very very little regulation and restriction and perhaps it needs a little bit more of if, how would you feel if your child or your partner had shit loads of rape videos and weird dead bodies flying around in their browser history?.
Now I am not condoning complete control and blanket bans on stupid material but fucking face it you have 18 certificate movies for a reason, do you think when you watch the movie 'I know it's an 18 but what do they think is worthy of an 18 certificate I ask you what do they think?'
Restriction is not always a bad thing.- but it IS a complete ban. There is plenty of user side netnanny software out there. Its a breach of freedom of information.toe_knee

Isnt it up to the parents to control and monitor what their child views....? Leaving it up to the government to say what you can and cant do with free information is bollox. Simple as that. Raise your own children
- sikma0
"Australia continues to ignore its own government-funded studies from 2006 that show ISP-level filtering to be ineffective and costly."
Infective - well no shit. This program will without a doubt fail and only annoy people.
- chossy0
What I think you miss is that you rely on parents having the ability to work a computer, now this isn't the case across the board, so some sort of legislation is actually needed.
When I was a young lad the worst I could see was on a VHS from a video store and I had to be 18 to watch it, we have now an internet full of fucking real death, real rape, real beatings, real torture, rear horror, right there, right there for your kids to see and you honestly believe that the responsibilty lies with the parents of the children and the hope that all the parents of all the other children will travel the same road as you do?... if they don't travel the same road then what?... what can be done about your child seeing bad stuff?... counselling?, fines for the parents that didn't install the parental guards cause they didn't know how to?...
- chossy0
I am not sure where the complete ban you talk about comes from?..... I read that it was illegal material and pornographic content inappropriate for children?.....
When you used to rent a filthy movie you had to prove you were 18 and show your ID if they wanted to see it, same went for horror movies and things like that, now with the internet you have access to things which are fucking ten times worse and you balk at your freedom of information saying you would rather decide for yourself and your children in the hope that every other parent does as you do.
If you bring up the freedom of information bullshit your just fucking lazy, because you can look at all the sick shit and mad sex all you want, if you go to a fucking library or a specialist video store, but people have to serve you there and you have to show ID so you might not like it because they have been abusing the freedom of information somehow?...
- its a complete ban on what the governemner deems illegal. There is no way to opt out of their filter system. If you are happy to only have access to what the government dems 'appropriate'toe_knee
- You will only have access to information that the government deems 'appropriate'. That in itself is wrongtoe_knee
