how old are you?
I think the only people in Uk to get a flu jab are pensioners.- large companies will foot the bill for their employees in order to keep bums in seats.paraselene

I'm only 29, but here in America it seems people of all ages get them. In fact, they are recommended for kids especially (as young as 6 month old I think)

I dunno the skeptic in me says it could be all about money. I think at around $15 - $30 a pop, there is probably a huge profit generated from flu shots.

It's always free here. Half of my family gets it; the other half doesn't. I get it every year or so because I have asthma. I've never had a cold right after getting the shot though. I've never had the flu either, so who knows.
- What I know is that, when I get a cold, my asthma flares up to about 50%. It's better each year, but still a hindrance.Jaline
- That's cool that it is always free. I have slight asthma that flares up sometimes when I get sick too. Hopefully I won't get the flu now :)designbot

a doctor who's been really good to me and thinks of 'me' first told me stay away from such things - do a little research on the negative aspects of flu shots... some frightening scenarios out there that make up more than a small populace of those annually injected...
... unless they're boiling shit up in a spoon first... i'd say no.

I wouldn't get it. Then again, I have never had any shots (beyond when I broke my shoulder).
It is pretty damn frightening to me. If you have a healthy immune system, you should be fine. Scares me to think about people that will take anything to avoid a little natural inconvenience without any thoughts about the long term repercussions.
Most of the vaccine's are motivated by profits for drug companies (you could argue otherwise, of course). More shots = more profits. More marketing and getting doc's to recommend = more profits.
I'll stay away from any vaccine that isn't for something lethal.

I think there are some risks involved with getting a flu shot...and some of the ingredients in the shot are probably not so good.
I wonder how the risks compare to the risks involved with getting the flu though. Found this on USA Today site:
Each year, 36,000 Americans — almost as many people as are killed in auto accidents — die from complications of flu. More than 200,000 people get sick enough to be hospitalized. Yet children ages 5 to 18 don't figure prominently in this toll: Last year, only about 40 of them died of flu in 26 states monitored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Pretty crazy numbers there, I had no idea. Wonder what percentage was elderly or had weak immune systems from other complications and illnesses though.
