What's the popular opinion on using crests in a logo design? Trendy or timeless?
- brains0
Well, 95% of people here will say it's a trend that died out about 6 years ago.

who or what is it for?
- brains0
But it depends on the application.

depends for what it is for...

do. not. do. it.
they are only timeless if they came before 1900.

if it fits the clients product or branding then it works otherwise its just not good to use it and its like an deus ex machina for designers.

I definitely think it works if the product or company has some serious heritage, and the crest directly represents its heritage or culture, otherwise. There are exceptions, but very few.

don't

IMO it would also work if the job calls for a vintage look for a newly established co. if you craft it nicely, why not. and why do you care if it´s trendy or not? would only make sense if the target audience would be designers...

I have my family crest tattooed on my shoulder, so I'm all for crests.
