for Janne: here is the entire parable, in the English Standard Translation.

"Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them. If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants! But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."

Peter said, "Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?" And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.

"I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled! I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

word code comes from the word codex
gospel of thomas and judas relate to chakra
when you were one you became two this is your twin soul twin flame twin ray when you're in the light what will you do, the light is the light/magenta chakra creative ray i think this also relates to sacred geometry of you being able to create you're own reality, ufo's in the bible talks about a wheel within a wheel this is when you make yourself zeropoint matter and antimatter merge becoming a wheel the one, the other wheel is your twin soul, and if you are orange/magenta no ego you can enter the spiritual realm the boundless realm where anything can happen, i think these might be alternate universes. i think it's like a programming language you learn to activate and create thinks using imagination, words/thoughts, but you have to learn the golden rule the unniversal rule do onto others as you would want it done onto you.

Its kind of sad to me. I've put alot of energy in learning about Jesus and God and now you are telling me it's not true. It's sad to hear!

OK so it looks like this only applies to the New Testament. The Septuagint and other Old Testament manuscripts existed hundreds of years before. So we are only dealing with New Testament writings here.

For starters, this is not the earliest Biblical manuscript, it is merely an early collection of Biblical books that together make up a "Bible". The earliest manuscripts, which were copied in Rome and Jerusalem and pre-date this Codex by a couple hundred years, were books such as the four commonly known Gospels, as well as the letters of Paul, Peter and a few other apostles. If there are contradictions between those letters (which were not canonized into a complete Bible, or collection of books, until the council of Nicaea in 323), then it is the fault of the scribes who compiled and wrote the Codex.

  • gramme0

"But the picture is complicated. Some argue that another early Bible, the Codex Vaticanus, is in fact older. And there are other earlier texts of almost all the books in the bible, though none pulled together into a single volume."

The bottom line here is that there are no credible translations that have fundamental differences in content. One sees immediately upon reading the four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John that they do not contain the exact same information, although there are no contradictions (for example, Matthew, John and Luke go into more detail about Jesus' experience on the cross than Mark).

Even today, we have many translations: no fewer than 30 commonly used, and that is only in English. The important matter here though is that they do not differ from one another in the meat of them, the bones of the content – even if one version says fruit and another says fig. Savvy?

religious people are always good fun. however you choose to look at it. but mass-religion like Christianity etc will hopefully be gone soon enough. hopefully in my lifetime

    • Only because the xtians are going to be raptured up and we'll be left with the false religion of the anti-christ.Mimio
    • or not.Mimio
    • oh the caricatures and marginalization. I suppose it helps you sleep better though.teleos
    • No rapture for you then, huh teleos?Mimio
  • mcLeod0

of course not all people who follow their chosen brand of religion is crazy, but there are some pretty incredible cases. for instance:

    • There are some wacky atheists too. Beware of the Genetic Fallacy.teleos

Erik - It might behoove you to look at the latest statistics. The major religions are growing substantially and show no sign of stopping. Voltaire said that within 100 years of his lifetime, Christianity would be gone from the earth. 50 years after his death, his house was used as a Bible Printing Society. LOL, the irony.

    • ha, nice. :Dgramme
    • Too bad it's not true.Mimio
    • There is debate as to the particulars as to when and what society used his house.teleos
  • teleos0

Ya see... we are hardwired by our creator to seek him. Now, we may choose to try and fill that void with the temporal and fleeting things of this world, but it persists... and it gnaws at us. So, Erik, please don't hold your breath. As long as there are humans, there will be the quest for ultimate purpose beyond what we can see and touch here.

"Other differences concern how Jesus behaved. In one passage of the Codex, Jesus is said to be "angry" as he healed a leper, whereas the modern text records him as healing with "compassion"."

And Jesus said: "Goddamn leper.., stand up, i got a crowd waiting on me to see me do tricks with bread and fish and shit...sjeeeezz"

    • Jesus saying, "jheeezz," is like you saying, "jaaahhh."blaw
  • janne760

    Interesting article though. Thanks, 5timuli.

    • I found it interesting. I don't follow this stuff as closely as others, judging from the responses to it.5timuli

just because the bible is bullshit doesn't mean god doesn't exist.

I had a very interesting conversation with a friend who is 3 years into a 4 year theology degree in the pub the other night. As a PhD candidate, it was fun discussing ontology and epistemology from the perspective of theology.....

then there was the dancing on tables...
