it sounds to me that you are in doubt that your logo is worth 3k and are only basing it off your clients income.
once you throw out a number it is hard to increase your price.
saying no is hard but stick to what you are worth and it will pay off in the future.

Make him a fully developed brand book, include all basic collaterals he will need...

I bought the GAG book... it says:
Organizational identity design > logo design project > small client
$3,000 –> $10,000
Logo $900
Usual and customary fees for research and application of primary
logo identity to all corporate materials including advertising, business papers, signage, and in-house publications; presentation of
3 to 6 schematics; final applications to stationery; implementation guidelines.- Erm, minus the Logo $900 part. I searched, copied and pasted to save typing it in. Meant to take that part out.5timuli

So this...
"Usual and customary fees for research and application of primary logo identity to all corporate materials including advertising, business papers, signage, and in-house publications; presentation of 3 to 6 schematics; final applications to stationery; implementation guidelines."
...makes it sound like you have to do all that shit to justify that price. Right?

i calculate about 10 euro per diagonal millimeter. if the client wants the logo to be bigger i'll just calculate the difference.

Me, "20k"
Client, "Can you do it for 6?"
Me "There is the door"
Client, "What?"
Me "SILENCIO"

$3000/$50=60 hrs
3k is nothing to do a logo. How much do you value your own work? What are your deliverables? Logo, styleguide, business card design, letterhead, etc., etc. 3k becomes nothing

I've spent 120 hours on a logo only. Was a proposed logo for a hospital. Design by committee, you know how that is. Endless revisions to please everyone. Got rejected in the end too.

AND that was just my time one it. three other people spent at least 10-15 hours a piece on initial designs, maybe longer.
