I would suggest, if you're in friday night, the Blizzart fridays. Small place, Good times:
"Djs Lexis, Kobal & Jonah's Ear every friday @ Blizzarts in Montreal. Connecting the Musical Dots on a weekly basis; Funk, HipHop, Soul, Broken Beat... for the heads! We have had the pleasure of having pretty much all the dopest Djs Montreal has to offer: Scott C, Andy Williams, Moonstarr, Simon B, Christian Pronovost, Naes, Illya, Paypercut, Blu Rum 13, 7D, A-Rock and so on...."
Get there around 11:30pm, for the party, or 10ish if you want a seat. If you like Funk, hip-hop and afro-beat, its teh place.

3956A, Saint-Laurent, MontréalLast week I went to see the World press photo exhibition:
http://www.worldpressphoto.org/
@ Le musee juste pour rire : 2111 St Laurent, Montréal, QC H2X 2T5
10$ or 5$ for student. There is the Canadian Centre for Architecture, I saw a nice exhibition " Some Ideas on Living in London and Tokyo by Stephen Taylor and Ryue Nishizawa"
http://www.cca.qc.ca/pages/Nivea…
also be sure to visit the bookstore, "specializing in current titles on contemporary architectural practice, architectural history and theory, city planning, landscape and garden history, photography, graphic design and typography, historic preservation, and design from around the world."If you like shopping, walk the mont-Royal avenue (between Du Parc and Papineau), Saint-Laurent street (between Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Joseph) and Sainte-Catherine street.
The old montreal is nice, for a touristic point of view, but imo the restaurants are too expensive.

if you're here on a Tuesday night and looking for something different, look for Café Sablo. It's in the MileEnd neighbourhood.
improv rap, reggae, jazz, swing, whatever. generally just amazing. very very small with just great music. On St-Denis there's 'Bières et compagnie'. a good place to discover a shitload of canadian and foreign beers. good restaurant too. You can eat austrich and moose burgers, etc. etc. etc.
still food wise, Schwartz on St-Laurent. Historical hebrew smoked meat sandwhich place. always has a huge line. worth the wait. every time i go its an experience. last time i sat with a bunch of Russian tourists. we had no idea what we were saying to each other, but we had a good time with them anyways.
and finally : La Banquise. to try out arguably the BEST poutine in town. Near Mont-Royal, on Rachel. near Parc Lafontaine.

Casa Bianca is a great B&B http://www.casabianca.ca/ in the Plateau right across from the mountain.
Figaro for breakfast, lunch, or dinner: http://lacroissanteriefigaro.com… awesome ter asse/patio.
Santropol for lunch for a sandwich the size of your head: http://www.santropol.com/pages/r….
Shopping: St Denis and St Laurent are both fun. Jean Talon market on the weekends is great. Old Port is nice if you've never been but very touristy.

Casa Del Popolo on St-Laurent street for great indie concerts !
Spirit Lounge on Ontario for some rather interesting vegan food and the most baroque & intense decoration you're gonna see in Montreal.

Yes thanks for the info, I'm heading up there in October.

We did the same a few weeks ago. Drove up from NYC and ended up in Burlington for dinner, walked around a bit downtown, and finally just decided to crash at one of those business hotel places. We debated on hitting the Ben&Jerry's tour in the morning but were too anxious to get up to Montreal. Getting back and forth is a lot easier with passports or birth certificates, but we had neither with us, and it was fine after a few questions. In Montreal, definitely stay up near St.Denis & Avenure du Mont Royale. The little information booth by the MontRoyal subway stop has a great list of all the B&B's in the area. We made 2 calls and found a great place across the street from Parc La Fontaine. Old Montreal is cool to walk around for maybe an hour by very touristy. The contemporary art museum is pretty decent as well, but all the good stuff is up around St.Denis & St.Laurent as mentioned.

It was nice. But I was underwhelmed honestly. Very livable for sure though. But then again I didn't indulge in any nightlife per se, which I hear is pretty stellar.
- How is your French? How bad off am I for not speaking a word of it???stoplying
- You wiill be fine speaking only english, of course it helps to have an understanding of french, but Montreal is very bilingual, basically everyone speaks englishschoolbusrock

This is the only link you'll need to visit before you go.
Should have been destination #1, instead of the barrage of other domains you've undoubtedly had to filter through...
