I'll say this about the Brexit:

The BRemain campaign did a better job. By positioning the argument as "Remain means things stay the same, while Leave means things will change drastically" they harness the status quo bias vote.

But, Remain doesn't mean everything will stay the same. In fact, adopting the Euro and opening borders is a huge change, some might argue it's an even bigger change than Exiting.

I have no idea what the correct choice is, but if I had a vote it would be Remain. Because as many people have said, we're more committed to solve our problems when we work together as a common.

    • what the hell are you on about? Adopt the Euro? Opening borders? This is not part of staying in lol. Do some research.fadein11
    • Borders are already open - that's part of the EU which we are a part of. The Eurozone (Euro) is something separate which we opted out of and won't be joining.fadein11
    • Purrlease - it's these ridiculous myths being spread around that have made this vote so close.fadein11
    • Oh really?! Shit I should read more! Sorry, I'm a dumb American. I thought the EU was pushing for UK to adopt the Euro, & that's what caused the referendum.
      ********
    • no ha - nothing to do with that, the referendum happened because of in fighting within our conservative (read republican) govt... Cameron was forcedfadein11
    • Shit, I'm embarrassed. I usually read before opening my mouth.
      ********
    • to call it as his party was split on Europe and he needed to take control - but it was a ridiculous and risky move. Nope if we remain things remain as they werefadein11
    • Good lord, this new information really makes me think the Exit supporters are morans. Staying in the EU & keeping your own currency? WIN WIN
      ********
    • or as Cameron would argue better as he negotiated a 'better' deal with the EU. Sorry wasn't calling you stupid , just heard so much BS about this on run up tofadein11
    • vote it is scary - people believe these myths and then vote out.fadein11
    • Yep - that is my view as well... way too raky to go it alone. A lot of the out campaign still think we are an empire not reliant on Europe. The reality is v.fadein11
    • You're not as KORREKT as you think you are, Fadein - the UK's not part of the Schengen agreement, so no 'open border' between the UK and France.detritus
    • ...the wee strip of water between us doesn't help either, to be fair.detritus
    • different. Of course the EU has many problems but my God the cronies who want to take us out are a nightmare bunch of right-wing, selfish, dangerous people.fadein11
    • Sorry by open borders I mean free movement of EU citizens to live and work which is what I presume nb meant - not a symbolic border control.fadein11
    • I come to think Brexit is actually about the massive influx of non-Brits into the UK. It seems people are "saying" other reasons but it a case of migrants thatrobotron3k
    • are looking to up their societal and economic status by simply relocating to the UK and asking for citizenship. Or is this really about something else??robotron3k
    • ^ for the average working Brexit voter it is about the perceived strain on jobs/public services of migrants without understanding the strain is from years offadein11
    • tory austerity. The right-wing press in the UK feeds these lies on a daily basis.fadein11
    • Still not understanding, entering migrants don't have jobs, correct? so they are on social welfare, so wouldn't that tax jobs/public services even more??!robotron3k
    • Most work or are students and we can move to any EU country and do the same... the benefits are far greater than the costs. This is about EU citizens notfadein11
    • refugees - unfortunately a lot of dimwits here connect the 2.fadein11
    • here = in the UK. I wasn't calling you a dimwit lol.fadein11
    • Ah okay. It never seemed the UK wanted to be apart of Europe (Euro) since you keep your own currency and keep it valued high. Let's see what happens!robotron3k
    • Eurozone and EU are 2 different things - we have been part of the EU since 1973. The Euro is a currency that was optional.fadein11
    • It was introduced in 2002.fadein11
  • yurimon-2

    sorry repost 4 z cotd

Can someone explain the benefit of the EU? compared to not paying faceless bureaucracy $ for nothing?

    • i guess there is no benefit.yurimon
    • Contrary to popular belief, the people working at the EU do in fact have faces as far as I can tell.yuekit

Yurimon, you should've announced your Brexit opinion to support the Leave campaign before the vote ended... your support might have convinced one or two people to vote Remain.

    • i still want to know the benefit. seems like there is not much gain but red tape, extra tax burden of things you can do on your own and make good trade deals.yurimon

It's funny how literally 10 minutes after the Brexit polls closed, online news was telling me that the "Leave" campaign had conceded, and that it was all over, with 0.5% reporting.

It blows my mind that people can be dumb enough to agree with Trump. This is easily the stupidest thing I've read regarding the Brexit outcome.

Again, the man who wants to be leader of the free world, making a statement of absolutely no substance nor even a sense of reality.

    • "“When the pound goes down, more people are coming to Turnberry, frankly,” Trump added during an afternoon press conference." Only cares about himself

As recently as the 1950s, possessing only middling intelligence was not likely to severely limit your life’s trajectory. IQ wasn’t a big factor in whom you married, where you lived, or what others thought of you. The qualifications for a good job, whether on an assembly line or behind a desk, mostly revolved around integrity, work ethic, and a knack for getting along—bosses didn’t routinely expect college degrees, much less ask to see SAT scores. As one account of the era put it, hiring decisions were “based on a candidate having a critical skill or two and on soft factors such as eagerness, appearance, family background, and physical characteristics.”

    Bombs dropped!

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/o…

Henry Paulson, former Treasury Secretary under George W Bush and former CEO of Goldman Sachs writes a letter to Republicans, urging them to vote "country over party".

The writing is great, but if you want the TLDR version: he says that:
    • Trump is actually not great at business
    • Trump would be terrible for the economy
    • Trump doesn't understand trade deals
    • Trump's policies would destroy the job market

You may not like this guy, but we can all agree that he is in a better position to make these claims than any of us.

    His final paragraph:

"When it comes to the presidency, I will not vote for Donald Trump. I will not cast a write-in vote. I’ll be voting for Hillary Clinton, with the hope that she can bring Americans together to do the things necessary to strengthen our economy, our environment and our place in the world. To my Republican friends: I know I’m not alone."

    • ^ tons of articles on him https://www.wsws.org…robotron3k
    • As I said, "you may not like the guy" but the fact that he wrote in the Post calling on Repubs to vote Clinton is still a very big deal.

George Will, Pulitzer Prize winning conservative author, is leaving the Republican Party because he is against Trump.

Will, who resides in Maryland, said he changed his affiliation this month from Republican to unaffiliated.

A report from PJ Media quoted Will as saying: “This is not my party.”

He also said that it’s too late for the Republican Party to nominate someone who isn’t Donald Trump, an idea that those in the Never Trump movement have been holding on to as the convention nears.

“Make sure he loses,” he said. “Grit their teeth for four years and win the White House.”
