I dont doubt your argument that many rich people got there because of hard work (unlike Romney, "my dad was a president of a car company").
Many who are in poverty are motivated to make their life better but not all millionaires come from poverty.

"Paul Ryan criticized running mate Mitt Romney in two separate interviews on Tuesday for his word choice in recently leaked fundraiser comments, calling Romney "inarticulate" and "inelegant.""

debate is, every one has 24 hours. what makes those different who get out of poverty over others?

Saying that everyone has the same amount of time in a day and that the amount of time someone works is the determining factor to how much they earn is reducing people to robots.
There are a myriad of factors that determine how much one makes, from the wealth of the family they are born into to location to physical and mental factors that are in their DNA.
The notion that everyone should be able to do the same amount of work is as ludicrous as the implication that everyone in Romney's 47% wants to be millionaires for free. Most of these people aren't looking for wealth, they're just looking for survival, at least, and the means to pull themselves out of a place where they are living from paycheck to paycheck.- Your assuming too much. Nobody is comparing people to robots. Its human question what makes those people different.yurimon

A basic history of America's modern welfare system focuses on our failure as a society to prevent poverty in our country from becoming epidemic.
Initially, early Americans developed " an economic safety net" to provide for those experiencing hardship and in need of assistance. These individuals would pay a small fee in return for basic services such as, " guaranteed sick benefits, a proper funeral and financial support for their widows and children" in the event of death.Today's welfare system provides many of the same services but extends well beyond these basic ideas. Instead of "small fees" being paid when assistance is needed, all citizens have a portion of their paycheck deducted automatically and deposited into a federal fund. Not only does this money pay for those who have "earned" services, but also for those who have not contributed.
Millions of Americans today "bleed" this system with no intention of changing their status in life or society. There is no accountability or desire for self improvement. The very system that was developed to assist those in need after they contributed to society has in turn become one of the biggest reasons our country's poor remain poor. It has been observed the poor most often fail to develop constructive social habits. Handouts, medical care and food are given out with abandon. No time limits for remaining in the system are upheld and there are therefore no incentives for these individuals to search for self sustainance are stressed. The 'poor' of this country oftentimes have more food, cash on hand, and better healthcare than those who work full time.
Historians have also delved deeper into the reason that this problem persists in this group and why they fail to change their social habits like it was initially intended when in the beginning of welfare, the initiators made statements like this one; " the benefits were not viewed as a handout, because they had earned by virtue of paying the modest weekly dues. This self-supporting aspect also worked to engender a sense of pride and solidarity."
Perhaps this is the solution for change. Initiation of reward programs, assistance and insistence to obtain employment and housing, medical care and food should be developed to change the mindset of our poor and needy. Turning back to the original intent of the welfare system must be established to stop the downward spiral of our current welfare system. Only in this way will there be the support for future Americans who truly need help, due to illness or hardship to provide for their loved ones when hard times befall them.
- Not really interested in going back to "early America"DrBombay

- what if I worked 3 jobs to make over $250K, what then should I be taxed more?whhipp
- of course you ask people who dont make 250K if others should pay more, majority will be yes.whhipp
- How bout cut spending... so we dont have to pay more taxes?whhipp
- If you're bringing home 250k+ after deductions, definitelyaaux
- Cut spending on defense how about, mr neocon?aaux
- not pay MORE, just pay the same, you fuckassmonospaced
- its not the same idiot. also why should someone working his ass off pay more in taxes?whhipp
- they should pay the SAME as everyone else. Right now the people making the most get the tax breaksmonospaced
- Investments and interest earned are different than income. Its been that way. If you want to change those tax breaks fine, but to also raise their earned percentage is a joke and uncalled for.whhipp

WTF??
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/…
In a 1995 interview, Obama said:
"I THINK THE BEST LEGACY OF THEIRS, MY INHERITANCE, IS THE NOTION THAT WE COLLECTIVELY DECIDE ON OUR FATE...
things like technological change, things like mass media, things like the market, are all subject to our control, that we can make decisions for better or worse and continue to move forward and progress.”So what in the hell is wrong with that? It seems like a very true statement! Read the article - they bold the part I have in all caps.
- The bold isnt too alarming, but in the video, you can sense his disappointment in the collapse of communism.whhipp
- Which is really what the opposition to him are saying... he wants Communism over Capitalism. Its pretty much plain to see in this video.whhipp
- to see in this video.whhipp
- "he wants Communism over Capitalism" you just see whatever you want, don't you?aaux
- its right there in the video, + tons of other historical facts support this ideology of hiswhhipp
- I think you say "historical facts" but don't really know what those words meanTheBlueOne
- "tons of other historical facts" such as? Let's face it, romney had virtually the same stance as obama on almost everything 10 years ago.aaux
- within the last 8 years. Now he's suddenly the neocon hero. Funny how that worksaaux
- Question at this point is who is going to do the least amount of damage. This election is more about damage control.yurimon
- And romney would be good for damage control? More tax breaks to the rich? More warmongering?aaux
- It's only damage control if you don't like where we're going. I see it as baby steps towards a civilized society.aaux
- I dont think any one has the answer who is better. Problem is politicians wont solve your problems. What is defined as civil is subjective.yurimon
- is subjective. Example British considered themselves civil while being an imperial power.yurimon
- defined as civil I mean in error between 12 n 13yurimon

For the fuckass name calling idiot, monospaced. ^^^
Personal income taxes: Obama would keep tax rates the same for families making less than $250,000 annually. For families earning more than that, he would raise the top two tax brackets to 36 percent and 39.6 percent. The highest tax rates have been 33 percent and 35 percent for the last 11 years.
36% and 39.6% is MORE. I guess you're arithmetically challenged.
- i'm not sure it's that simple, and the name calling was started by you, btwmonospaced
- when and where?whhipp
- So you are not sure its that simple? So its that simple, but it should be more complex? Or this is completely wrong?whhipp

the bush era tax breaks have proven not to trickle down.
"job" creators don't just sit around with a pile of cash and think, ya know, I should really hire someone with all this extra cash i have..
no. its consumers that drive hiring demand.
those consumers are the middle to lower middle class. even those in poverty spend cash. also, those that 'suck off the govt tit", 100% of that money goes back into the economy. not some acct in the cayman islands.
