the whole keystone thing is idiotic if you're buying in to the "obama stops jobs!" tactic. not only was it potentially environmentally disastrous, but the "make a decision in 60 days" addition to the house bill he had to sign was setting up exactly this press release field day for republicans.
it's complicated, and if you are just talking about him cowering to environmental supporters, that's not it at all. had the republicans not forced his hand to decide immediately, and let the decision be pushed back until after the election, he totally would have folded and gone for it as he's backed by corporate interests (just like every politician).
but this is all about headlines, not about policy.
- where in the fuck did you get that from dude? Do you know how many pipelines currently exist already? Hear of them breaking? Outside of BP mess********
- breaking? Outside of the BP mess, they run on a daily basis and do very little damage if any at all. He's absolutely bending over for enviro's.********
- bending over for environmentalist crowd. It's all about win, win, win. He's starting to wither.********
- mark my words, if he wins again, you'll see all this kind of stuff passed, he's not going to care. it's like pardons.********

- pipelines can also be damaged by people. i grew up near the trans-alaska pipeline, which twice was blown open by drunks.colin_s
- drunks. they can withstand some damage, but there are always other factors to consider.colin_s

"Portions of the pipeline will also cross an active seismic zone that had a 4.3 magnitude earthquake as recently as 2002.[49] Opponents claim that TransCanada applied to the U.S. government to use thinner steel and pump at higher pressures than normal.[50] In October 2011, The New York Times questioned the impartiality of the environmental analysis of the pipeline done by Cardno Entrix, an environmental contractor based in Houston. The study found that the pipeline would have`limited adverse environmental impacts, but was authored by a firm that had "previously worked on projects with TransCanada and describes the pipeline company as a 'major client' in its marketing materials."
Delaying (or halting, as he was forced to) for these reasons alone is not partisan politics or posturing, it' smaking sure the potential for something happening that can't be undone are eliminated or minimized to a reasonable extent.
- which seismic zone exactly, be curious to know. I know of no seismic zone in middle America. Sounds like BS********
- it's low-risk zones (ie hyped risk) but i think it's the addition of the thinner steel that is the concernlocustsloth

As if his tax returns weren’t already enough of a perception problem for him, ABC News reported last night that one of the embarrassing details in the returns is the fact that part of Mitt Romney’s continued investments in Bain Capital include money parked in accounts in Cayman Islands...

Im not a big fan of taxes. However its alway like christmas gettin 1400 bucks back come tax time. I know its my money just held and interest gained but still its nice. I know when i was young i took 15% of every dollar and tossed it in my piggy bank. Sooooooo its a nice gift like that cracking the piggybank open every year. Probably spend the money on a new timing belt on my wrx. Of course i appreciate the ability to alter how much you are taxed and choose wether to invest the money and pay excesses at years end. I just dont invest and dont mind the state savings account since they fit into my life style. Different tax deductions are there for those who would like to invest. The options make me ok with it. No state does good by forcing people to save so they can have a spending spree BS. In this case the state works in my interests.
- Im not sure why i thought this was relevant. Maybe on the issues of taxes and perhaps good for some... sorry********
