The Tea Party Has No Moral Compass
The Republicans are back from vacation. No doubt about that. Their first move is to refuse to meet with the President of the United States on the date he requested. Nothing new there.
This story, however, is followed by an unbelievable story coming to you from the lovely state of Arizona. The Arizona GOP is raffling off a gun to help raise money and get out the vote. The gun is the same series as the gun that killed people and wounded Rep.Giffords in Arizona. ìHelp the GOP get out the vote and you may win a Glock with three 12-round magazines.
The Glock 23 that the GOP plans to raffle off is a more powerful, more easily concealed version of the Glock 19 used to shoot Rep. Giffords
Pima GOPís interim director Mark Shaw said, ìthere werenít any concernsî about the gun raffle until The Huffington Post reported about it this morning. ìWe at the Pima GOP regard gun ownership as a constitutional right and an Arizona tradition,î Shaw said. ìWeíre just standing on the second Amendment and we certainly donít feel like weíre doing something wrong.î
I understand about the second Amendment and I understand that a law is a law and, unfortunately, you cannot legislate morality. But I must say, this is a new low for the Tea Party Republicans. And to think, it only became a problem when someone told Mark Shaw it was wrong. I must assume the GOP has no collective or individual moral compasses.

Justice nominee keeps names of 11 clients secret
Uses confidentiality exception
http://www.washingtontimes.com/n…ichael E. Horowitz, President Obama’s nominee as the Justice Department’s top watchdog, has earned more than $4 million since last year as an attorney representing the likes of Pfizer Inc., Dow Chemical Co. and Cablevision Systems Corp. But he is keeping the identities of nearly a dozen other clients secret on newly filed ethics forms.
Federal ethics rules require nominees to disclose clients and customers so ethics officials and the public can vet potential conflicts of interest. But because of a narrow exception to the rules, Mr. Horowitz is withholding about half of his client list, meaning he essentially will have to police himself on any potential conflicts.

Publisher Calls FBI Over Muslim Backlash From 9/11 Coloring Book

“Well, I don’t know, I mean this is what our research showed us,” Bell said, “Every time we mention one of the hijackers we call them what they are. And that’s what parents wanted. Radical, Islamic, Muslim Extremists. And every time we mention one of the hijackers like the three guys that drove the plane into the Pentagon, there’s nothing else you can call them. I mean, what do you think, they’re having a bad hair day?”

China's Communist Party control is at risk unless the government takes firmer steps to stop Internet opinion being shaped by increasingly organized political foes, a team of party writers warned in a commentary published on Friday.
The long commentary in the overseas edition of the People's Daily, the main newspaper of China's ruling Communist Party, added to signs that Beijing, jolted by the growing audience and influence of Twitter-like microblogging websites, is weighing fresh ways to tame and channel online opinion.

Perry's fiery 'Fed Up!' may come back to haunt him
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Maybe Rick Perry's not so "Fed Up!" after all.
Just nine months ago, the Texas governor released a rhetorical bomb-throwing book under that title. He dismissed Social Security as a New Deal relic that smacked of socialism. He said states' rights trump all else. He suggested that the Supreme Court's nine unelected "oligarchs in robes" could have their rulings overturned by two-thirds votes in both houses of Congress.

Between the second quarter of 2009 and the fourth quarter of 2010, real national income in the U.S. increased by $528 billion. Pre-tax corporate profits by themselves had increased by $464 billion while aggregate real wages and salaries rose by only $7 billion or only .1%. Over this six quarter period, corporate profits captured 88% of the growth in real national income while aggregate wages and salaries accounted for only slightly more than 1% of the growth in real national income.
happy labor day.

And yet...according to the "theory" these corporations, now flush with cash should be the "job creators", right? I suppose we'll be forced to give them more corporate tax breaks so they have more cash so they can create more of these "jobs".

Those Brits will just have to accept more austerity. Their bankers need better riding clothes, horses, et. al. and how else are they going to be able to afford it, really? I mean, why riot? Think of the bankers and their hardships.

The U.S. Postal Service may have to shut down by the end of the year unless Congress takes action to stabilize its finances.

Bachmann: Why is there a Department of Education?
Painting herself as a "constitutional conservative" Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann told Sen. Jim DeMint's forum Monday that if elected president she would look to get rid of the Department of Education, among other things.
"Because the Constitution does not specifically enumerate nor does it give to the federal government the role and duty to superintend over education that historically has been held by the parents and by local communities and by state governments," she said, responding to a question by DeMint, a popular figure among the tea party movement.
Another item on the chopping block: The Affordable Care Act.
People "see that the current government is acting outside the bounds of the Constitution. Probably the most obvious would be this, Obamacare and the individual mandate that is unconstitutional and is currently contained in Obamacare," she said.Throughout the question and answer, Bachmann highlighted her understanding of the Constitution and the need to return to a limited federal government.
"And when I'm working with the Congress of the United States, my guiding principle will be that the government works best when it acts within the limitations of the Constitution," she said. "The current president of the United States has failed to demonstrate an understanding."
When asked about her jobs program, Bachmann pointed to her past as a tax litigation attorney and small business owner.
"(I) believe in profit and actually believe profit is a good thing and that we should encourage that in this country," she said. Bachmann called for a restructuring of tax rates for businesses – highlighting her experience in that area.
When asked if she would try and overturn Roe v. Wade, which gives women the right to an abortion, Bachmann said she would put forth a human life amendment and do everything in her power to restrict abortions.

ABC News reports this chilling tax threat (http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/sto... from Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters:
If [banks] don't come up with loan modifications and keep people in their homes that they've worked so hard for, we're going to tax them out of business.
This brings to mind President Obama's "joke" in a 2009 Arizona State commencement address about his planned retaliatory audit of the school for its refusal to award him an honorary degree:
As Glenn Reynolds (Tennessee) pointed out at the time in a Wall Street Journal (http://online.wsj.com/article/S... op-ed, Tax Audits Are No Laughing Matter: A President Shouldn't Even Joke About Abusing IRS Power:
Just a joke about the power of the presidency. Made by Jay Leno it might have been funny. But as told by Mr. Obama, the actual president of the United States, it's hard to see the humor. Surely he's aware that other presidents, most notably Richard Nixon, have abused the power of the IRS to harass their political opponents. But that abuse generated a powerful backlash and with good reason. Should the IRS come to be seen as just a bunch of enforcers for whoever is in political power, the result would be an enormous loss of legitimacy for the tax system.
