ukit... something has to be done...
... and folks are tired of the criminal shit that's breached the borders.
My proposal to get rid of this bill... some of the stuff Subcomm said (corpo / biz crackdown and drug policy adjustment) AND pressure on Mexico's Gov to start showing some self control.
- Well, let's just hope this will be the final solution and not a temporary oneukit
- "pressure on Mexico's Gov to start showing some self control." Shit, that dysfunctional mess of a govt? Good luck.********
- And it's a mess primarily, but not entirely, bc of the drug violence.********

Shocked. Someone rational on Fox:
"Napolitano: She's gonna bankrupt the Republican Party and the state of Arizona. Look at what happened to the Republicans in California with the proposition --
Cavuto: What happens?
Napolitano: Ah, Hispanics -- who have a natural home in the Republican Party because they are socially conservative -- will flee in droves. She's also gonna bankrupt her state, because no insurance company will provide coverage for this. And for all the lawsuits that will happen -- for all the people that are wrongfully stopped -- her budget will be paying for it. Her budget will be paying the legal bills of the lawyers who sue on behalf of those that were stopped.
This will be a disaster for Arizona -- to say nothing of the fact that it's so unconstitutional that I predict a federal judge will prevent Arizona from enforcing it as soon as they attempt to do so. That will probably be tomorrow.
- Well, it was a Democrat on Fox. Kudos to Fox for having her on, but no credit goes to them for being rational.luckyorphan
- I think you're thinking of the wrong Napolitano. I'm guessing this is the Judge Andrew Napolitano, not Janet N.mathinc
- Correct, it's Andrew.********

PonyBoy - sorry if my tone was a bit combative. Emoticon away my friend.
I was working in a building for ten years with a company here in NY that was all Mexican - all legal as far as I know, but I didn't ask for papers. The owner of the company, also from Mexico originally 30 odd years ago but also a US Citizen now, was an interesting guy to talk to. He was certainly biased against the current wave of Mexicans coming up, at least to the NY area. Lots of Mexicans, (many illegal) up here in the NYC suburbs (not in NYC itself) as they all come up to work for the landscapers who manage the properties of the Wall Street dickheads in Greenwich and Westchester. Trust me, these hedgefund guys are keeping the supply of illegals going fine and dandy up in this corner of the country. Although I know the problem in the west is of a different magnitude with different social contexts as well. But there's plenty of infiltration of Mexican gang violence and drug trade up here too.
That said, some of the hardest working people I know have been these illegals. Shit, they're working harder and for less money than anyone else I can think of. And wit them having kids being born here - well now you have family issues. I personally don't have much of a problem with the US gaining hardworking, family oriented people as citizens, no matter if they crossed the border illegally or not. Find a way to make the good ones stay if they want. If they don't want to stay, then drop them off on the other side of the border. (I know, simplistic...venting..but you get my point I hope)
There needs to be some major overhaul of how we let people come into this country and how we treat them, but creating a police state ain't it by a long shot. And this is deeply tied into the US drug policy, the role of US military advisors in Mexico, etc. bc this is bringing not just illegal migrant workers here, but also bringing drug violence into it. It's only going to get worse unless we have a major restructuring of our drug policy. But this draconian law will hurt the hardworking poor illegal worker and not the drug traffickers. Fuck, I'll be they'll corrupt/intimidate the local police forces in the US just like they do in Mexico.

Donor issues?

Most back stricter financial reform
About two-thirds of Americans support stricter regulations on the way banks and other financial institutions conduct their business, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Majorities also back two main components of legislation congressional Democrats plan to bring to a vote in the Senate this week: greater federal oversight of consumer loans and a company-paid fund that would cover the costs of dismantling failed firms that put the broader economy at risk.
A third pillar of the reform effort draws a more even split: 43 percent support federal regulation of the derivatives market; 41 percent are opposed. Nearly one in five - 17 percent - express no opinion on this complicated topic.
President Obama, who traveled to New York last week to deliver his case for sweeping changes to the financial system gets an even-up review of his performance on the issue, with 48 percent of those polled approving of his handling of financial regulation and 48 percent disapproving.
But compared with congressional Republicans, Obama has a clear advantage. A slim majority - 52 percent - of all Americans says they trust Obama over the GOP on the issue, while 35 percent favor the Republicans in Congress. Independents prefer Obama 47 to 35 percent, with 16 percent trusting neither side on the issue.
In the poll, most Democrats back each of the three major elements of the reform legislation and most Republicans oppose them, echoing the congressional showdown expected this week.

Wow, just added up the numbers. Turns out the current version of the Republican party (House + Senate) is 91% male, and ... 98% white.
So if the Republicans take over the House and the Senate, you're basically shutting any minority voice out of the decision process for the next few years. In society in general, white males make up about 32% of the population.
OK, so race isn't everything, but at some point you have to start wondering if there's something wrong when one political party only elects old white men. Now you know why they were so desperate to get people like Steele and Rubio out there.
- But I know...I know...we should be "colorblind"...just like the R party and their voters. LOLukit
