Last time I looked into palins background, palin was a mayor and the a governer. She's not my choice for president, but right there she's got more experience than the guy in office now!!!

My take: The Republican party put Palin with McCain in the hopes that they'd lose. Make it close and make it a race but ultimately lose. I believe that during the last year or so of Bush's presidency they knew things were so unbelievably fucked up that they actually didn't want the Presidency, or better yet blow off the next four years to dominate for the next 8 after Obama were to win.
They figure Obama wins and inherits the large stinking pile of dung Bush left behind. NO President, Democrat or Republican can fix all of the problems in four years, so when it comes time for re-election the Republicans step in and are able to say "see, SEE four years later and we're still in bad shape". The American public eats it up because things were so fucked Obama couldn't fix them even in 8 years that the Republicans win by a landslide.
The fix is in. They wanted to lose and what better way than have a full-on moron as your running mate.

Just a side note, and I don't know if this is 100% accurate but I read somewhere that only 8% of Obamas cabinet has ever been involved in business. I think the next lowest total was something like 45%.

Let's not beat around the bush here - the woman is not smart. By all indications, really f*cking dumb actually. And no, being mayor of a town of 5,000 people that was later labeled the meth capital of Alaska does not make you more qualified than Obama.
The interesting thing to me though is not her lack of intelligence/ qualification (well-established at this point) but the weakness of the rest of the Republican candidate field. I mean, who are you gonna vote for? Mike Huckabee who talks about frying squirrels on a stick?

i find the assumption that an ability to run a business makes you suitable to lead a govenrment and be an effective policy maker strange.
It might make perfect sense if you wish for a corpocracy - in the same way countries looking to retain an industrial or manfufacturing based economy recruit technocrats.

a) Obama doesn't personally take over a car company and run the business....
b) even if he did, what SPECIFICALLY are the skills/competencies that you think are required? can these be derived from experience in any business, say a hand-me-down oil company?
