You know what's funny about this graph?
Unlike every other pollster Rasmussen doesn't use approve or disapprove, he uses "strongly approve" and "strongly disapprove" for his numbers. And strangely enough he never did this for Bush, Clinton, or any other president. Different set of rules for Obama.
If anyone told you the nation's biggest pollster would change his methodology like that in 2009 when a black man becomes president, would you believe it?
- the same can be said for polling on politico or cnn. everything is subjective.zenmasterfoo
- You missed the point. But at least you are consistent in that regard.Dr_Sparkleshine
- Actually every other pollster uses the simple "approve/ disapprove"ukit

In testimony before the Senate Banking Committee today, where he's seeking re-appointment as the Fed's chairman, Bernanke called for cutbacks in Medicare and Social Security even as unemployment rises and the middle class is endangered.
Citing legendary bank robber Willie Sutton, Bernanke said of the retirement and health care funds that are the legacy of the New Deal: "That's where the money is."
Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah) sympathized with Bernanke, saying that, because of entitlement spending, "you're going to be looking at a situation where the Congress will be unable to provide any kind of fiscal discipline because of the mandatory spending. That puts an enormous burden on your plate."
"Well, Senator, I was about to address entitlements," Bernanke replied. "I think you can't tackle the problem in the medium term without doing something about getting entitlements under control and reducing the costs, particularly of health care."
Bernanke reminded Congress that it has the power to repeal Social Security and Medicare.
"It's only mandatory until Congress says it's not mandatory. And we have no option but to address those costs at some point or else we will have an unsustainable situation," said Bernanke.

Wait...that's how a communist or socialist government acts?? ROFL...
- the fed is beyond reproach. they don't answer to anyone. not even congress.johndiggity
- and bernanke's comments were in response to congress wanting to rescind the fed's regulatory and oversight powers. i'd rather the fed overseeing banks than congress any day.johndiggity

They are talking about cutting social security and medicare? Wow, republicans never ever want to get re-elected do they? They alienated the hispanics in 2008, now they are alienating the elderly, the only real people that even vote republican anymore.

Just got a phone call from some Democratic action committee..blah blah Obama change...they ended their spiel with a request for $100 donation. I said I gave Obama over $200 during his election and he hasn't done one thing I thought he was going to do - get out of afghanistan, stick it to the reckless finance industry, etc. I told the lady this and she said "So, we can't comt on your donation?"
"When Obama puts some Wall Street crooks in jail instead of giving them trillions, he can get my hundred bucks, until then take me off your list."
- He never said he was getting out of afghanistan, he actually said the opposite.DrBombay
- Well he said he was going to "finish the job" I believe...Dr_Sparkleshine
- ..but he was a bit vague you have to admit.Dr_Sparkleshine
- I don't think he said he would put anybody on wallstreet in jail either but if he did either of those I'd donate 100$eieio
- madoff went to jail but still nothing about the social security scheme********

i recently saw some local news pumping the cost of childcare, and the vibe/comments following seemed to support the idea that the free market has failed and that childcare should also be a public option out of necessity. the reasons seem similiar that the public health option is modeled off of, and i wonder how people feel about that. i know im not for either, but i could see how peopel of rational judgement with kids could get behind it meaning less costs for them. wonder if those supporting public option healthcare without kids would also support this idea. and if so where does the buck for inconvenient necessities stop.
- and when will personal responsibility ever come in to play if at all********
- I can understand mistrust in gov., but less cost, kids are insured, options for more comprehensive private care...IRNlun6
- the current system is not offering the most accessible and affordable insurance now. this really wouldn't be so much of an issue if it was.IRNlun6
- .. of an issue if it was.IRNlun6
- i hate the social taboo that one must have insurance, and the gov incentives to create the bubble.... but come on public child care********
- child care... if anything i want a new rs6 for my emotional health. fast cars make me feel better********
- If you actually followed the debate, you'd know the public option is pretty much deadukit
- What we're getting will be a lot like the Swiss system - which I thought you said you likedukit
- its hard to tell with so much speculation how much is dead, and swiss plan seems decent for them not us********
- mored educated, higher incomes, different doctors, different mentality.********
- but curious about the gov daycare vs gov healthplan. curious if prohealth peopel would be opposed to that idea. even though it uses the same reasons that pushed healthplan********
- even though it uses the same reasons that pushed the health argument********
- Bad analogy because even if it was implemented the public option doesn't involve actual government doctorsukit
- Just government set insurance prices for poor people who can't afford private insuranceukit
- So the analogy for daycare would be like a voucher given to people on welfare and I suspect it already existsukit

Employers in the U.S. cut the fewest jobs in November since the recession began and the unemployment rate unexpectedly fell, signaling the recovery is lifting the labor market out of the worst slump since World War II.
Payrolls fell by 11,000 workers, less than the most optimistic forecast among economists surveyed by Bloomberg News, figures from the Labor Department showed today in Washington. The jobless rate declined to 10 percent.
Stocks soared, the dollar strengthened and Treasuries declined as the report indicated companies may start hiring again after the labor market shrank by 7.2 million jobs since December 2007. Hours worked, wages and staffing at temporary employment agencies all rose, today’s report showed.

In the opinion of Arlington Mayor Russell Wiseman, President Barack Obama's speech on Tuesday night on the war in Afghanistan was deliberately timed to block the Christian message of the "Peanuts" television Christmas special.
