Reposting from the "Review Obama!" thread: Coming from the Left I am completely underwhelmed and disappointed, for exactly the opposite reasons designbot and other right leaning people are. Stimulus? Too fucking small. Obamacare? Half-ass compromise that will do nothing except complicate shit and ultimately still fill the healthcare industries coffers. He toadies up to the finance corporations, continuing the Bush corporate welfare while fucking the common good. Stopping war? I don't see any bases leaving Iraq and Afghan is escalating for what? So we can use illicit heroin drug smuggling money to feed NSA/CIA secret ops? Fail. He's got nice rhetoric, and his symbolic role as the first black pres does some good, but he's punching over his weight. Your party has the White House and a overwhelming majority in the Congress and you STILL can't get the shit you promised through? Then when are you going to do it then? My hope is basically shot. I'm awaiting the coming Rightwing pushback and it's going to be ugly and violent and only serve the corporate interests even more with private security and surveillance. America is fucking done. Over. Insert fork. The only thing that could save America from becoming a fascist state is a dose of socialism, which oddly enough is exactly what the elites and the rubes think is what's wrong. Fucking ironic. Obama is just a wishy-washy middle of the road compromiser.

I voted for the guy because he is a democrat. I would have to have a gun to my head to vote against my interests and vote for a Republican. All of the Republican candidates are creepy rich old white men that I have absolutely nothing in common with. To think that Obama was going to do everything he said is pretty naive. There has never been a candidate that kept promises 100%.

Yeah I know Dobsey..I wasn't about to vote for McCain/Palin, and I am certainly not one of those "Why bother to vote they're all crooks anyway" morons. Voting is a citizens civil duty..and I always KNEW that Obama was going to be a pretty conservative moderate centrist president, but I expected more...or I expected more push from the left to force him to move in that direction..rather I see a committee made of small state lobbyist owned Blue Dog Democrats and three Republicans somehow halt the centerpiece bit of legislation of his. Unfucking believable. The crimes of the Bush era went unpunished, their is no accountability to any corporate/Wall St. malfeasance anywhere, and somehow, SOMEHOW, weird right wing talking points STILL make up the totality of our political rhetoric ("It's socialism." "He wasn't even born here." "He involves himself in racial politics"..ad naseum)

I may be guilty of this myself at times, but there's not much use in complaining about the status quo unless you are willing to engage and put some blood and sweat in changing it. That was partly what Obama ran on after all.

Can someone please explain to me the thought process behind spending 1 billion dollars (more to come) of taxpayer (stimulus) money on this? The gist is people bring in RUNNING cars deemed as "gas gusslers" and can trade them in for up to $4,500 on a new more fuel-efficient vehicle. Their old cars? not used or recycled, but scrapped. So essentially old cars = Chinese landfills. Who cares about China anyway right? //
So any environmental benefit coming from people driving more fuel efficient vehicles is completely offset by the huge amount of new pollution as all these old working cars are scrapped. Talk about short sighted.....my question for Rep. Edward Markey and Obama who signed the bill....are your brains in your ass?

I agree with getting fuel efficient cars on the road, but it's not an efficient method of spurring on car sales to shore up an industry that is hurting. The methods are not practical. Nor is the dollar amount.
