That kind of saddens me. I grew up in Northwest Ohio and spent a lot of time in Detroit. There are a lot of beautiful buildings/structures in that city that are sitting empty. I don't think Detroit is ever going to be what it was so it probably makes sense to level the blighted areas. But living in a city (Boston) where any empty building seems to be grabbed immediately and developed, I wish the buildings in Detroit had the same opportunity.

    • Detroit has (had) some incredible architecture. It's, what we would call, warehouse district, is amazing. There are rotting mansions near the downtown.Josev

us and iran elections jsut go to show that democracy is nothing more then mob rule, and the mob is the mother of all tyrants, as history has been so grateful to show. if its a process that is doomed to be repeated again and again i wonder if its worth worrying about. Wonder if it would be good to split the states up. make each one its own sovereign nation under the usa. The usa being primarily an organization, soley in charge of protection of the nation. Each state would have its representatives in the military council. Something liek that would cut down the huge mob into much more manageable pieces. Might also be better economically allowing each state to offer its own tax laws and to compete. While making sure it impossible for the usa as a whole to fall into the too big to fail category. But im just making this up as i go. Im sure there would be problems im not seeing like foreign markets and currencies or something, and i didnt explain the military council would need a new constitutions in place to control it, and also work as reinterating the importance of individual freedoms (as long as it doenst violate the rights of other) that the us was originally founded on, could be good since people seem to talk alot about the ideas of freedom and repeat things but never really understand what it means. ..Would help prevent dictorships to spring up, especially when if a person isnt happy they can just go 100 miles and setup in another state (no closed borders), it would hurt the states economy where people left but not the security of the nation being that liek 10% of each state offers funding for the national security, so a loss for one state. It would allow states to offer their own healthcare if they choose, be more manageable and responsible for less without a national oversight. of course people would try to take advantage of living in one state and benefiting in another, theres always peopel who will try to cheat the system. Like the legalizing of weed in one state and trafficking of it into another who outlaws it for example. Would be interesting to test it as a videogame. Well thats my idea. Will reitterate its very rough idea.

Definitly not facism. But i like your ability to throw around scary words like facism, thinking an explanation is not needed. Very bush like. But feel free to explain how it fits the facism definition, since the definition is broad and many disagree on the meaning. But its definitly not mussolini facsim.

It would be more like breaking down the monopoly of government. And the problems of large populous enslaving the smaller masses. (And monopolies are outlawed for reasons that they will be abused) All while maintaining a national defense against invading foreigners. You could look at the national military as being more like a parent. They should never have to step in unless one state tries to forcefully take another, or a foreign invader. A parent never wants their children to be harmed so would find it in its best interests to alleviate any internal disputes. It would really be no different then it is now, still one nation, just more presidents who have smaller responsibilities and will find it easyier to get things done. While each having their own seat on the national defense.

This idea is more founding fathers stuff, getting back to the basics. Fixing everythign that has been distorted, a reinstall of the OS becuase the current one is to fragged. I dont believe its an original idea. But one thing is for sure our current system is broken and more power to a single government is jsut setting us up for a bigger fall because man makes mistakes. Multiple governments makes those falls smaller when man errors, and recovery easyier and swifter.

Have you just defined Switzerland? I love how they have no centralized education, each canton has their own rules and approach.

Seems education is a primary factor. Any type of government will fail when its people are idiots. Might be good to teach philosophy, ethics, rights and such at a younger age then primarily at college level. The best regulation of government is a smart populace. Partisanship over ideas is a sign of a failing system by the people for the people. And goes to show the education needs an overhaul, but boy is that something hard to accomplish. especially when "the stolen concept" theory seems to be so predominant. Religion, culture, sociology, so many things to overcome for an enlightened public. However philosophy at a younger age may change that. We teach kids stuff before we teach them how to reason, how to think, value and judge for themselves. A smart populace would likely lead to less demand for a big government. Which one would be a better catalyst to start things off, less government, or better education, or work at both ends? It would definitly take time to fix what has happened, way longer then my life. I just hope to see a start before i die. And the thing i understand most, that others dont get who want change, is that it cant be forced or coerced. It can be only explained simply and logically and hope it takes. Or maybe its genetics and currently people are more neanderthal then cro magmum and a worldwide event will have to happen where the current neaderthals die out and let a new homo sapien take the stage. Or on that thought maybe territory is a catalyst to evolution. Since on earth there isnt really that much new territory to expand to to evolve we're simply left with the option to slay each other for the territory to evole or outerspace.

Sorry to bug you cats with my thoughts, but its good to exercise them and look for feedback to better evaluate them. An open discourse always provides better understanding.

    • You can't place blame on public school's for you children growing up being ignorant to social issues. If you're an enlightened parent you should have an open forum with your children about these things.EightyDeuce

Ahmadenijad got 90% of the vote in the last election, he got (supposedly) 60% of the vote this time...

Although I agree with you to a degree, do you have any proof it was rigged? Just curious.

For all of those against healthcare reform, tell me why we shouldn't drastically change or healthcare policies to cover people that are in this type of situation. Being someone who's mother has gone through this horrible ordeal, it hits very close to home.

I'm not a fan of him but the way of the west is that if the person we like gets elected it is "free and fair" and if is the one we don't like it is automatic corruption.

we can't accept that other people may think differently.

in saying that... massive opposition protests mean something...
