In case you missed it:
Btw, I just LOVE how Obama announced his new "NATIONAL" emission standards, just after he sufficiently fucked the auto-makers in a royal way. Now forcing the auto-makers to retool and comply to his stated standards. Timely. Planned. Fucked.- It is a brilliant idea. Our auto industry is that of the Dinosaurs.********
- The automakers have fucked themselves for decades, or haven't you noticed?TheBlueOne
- morilla, not true at all. Tech/cars are awesome. TBO, true.********

^I'm not sure how I feel about it, seems like a good idea only on paper. It might be a bit ambitious. I think it is going to cause some major problems for auto manufacturers at the worst possible time.

Are you saying there shouldn't be a standard for emissions and mileage in general? If not, that's one argument. If there should be, then anytime to implement it is going to face a shitload of tradeoffs.
- Correct, there should not. Do allow the consumer to make the choice. Simple. Most would opt for better mileage anyhow.********

I mean, we could have raised emission standards during the good economy of the last few years. We could have paid down the debt at the beginning of the decade. The Bush administration could have figured out a responsible way to handle prisoners of war that was legal. They could have regulated deriviatives in the financial market to avoid the credit crisis.
I'm sure I'm missing a few dozen things but you get the point...
- And the auto industry could have done it itself without a government mandate as well.TheBlueOne
- These are good points. The debt part though, has only grown exponentially with Obama.designbot
- Ukit, but that would mean they'd of actually have to, you know, govern.TheBlueOne
- true designbot, but don't mixup monetary policy with financial policy. Two different things.TheBlueOne
- responsible ways to handle innocent uncharged prisoners of illegal wars? he tried i guesslazerbass

I just watched some crash tests with the Prius and Smart car, and let me tell you....you don't want to be in an accident in one of those vehicles. They were only going 40 mph and were all but obliterated.
Let's see some innovation with some "real" sized vehicles that are safe and get killer gas mileage.
- I am willing to bet you live in the suburbs. I know 10 dudes like you.DrBombay
- haha yeah. I went from living Downtown Minneapolis, to living near the mountains (small town) Colorado :)designbot
- sorry "small suburb" is more appropriate...not "small town".designbot
- Not the best comparison but check out F1 racing. Need to keep the frame light but drivers can survive 200mph crashes.IRNlun6

Republicans are like your drunk friend who takes the car out for a joyride, runs your credit card bill up to the limit on drugs and whores, burns down your house, and then when your car is sitting in a ditch with the engine blown, you have it towed to the repair shop, and they throw a hissy fit because the bill is too high.

anyone know how the new emission standards effect industry/energy emissions and public transportation? seems like the entire american world revolves around their auto industry.

California voters overwhelmingly defeat tax and spend measures, but passed a measure stipulating no legislative pay raises while California has a deficit. Governor Arnold "The Apease-Inator" Schwarzenegger, The Apease-Inator will now be forced to cut some $20B in state jobs and social services.
Washington DC. pay some fucking attention to what's going on today in CA. Yes, tens of thousands of people lost their jobs today and the shit is just now REALLY going to fit the fan.
Obama, STOP SPENDING OUR FUCKING MONEY. Bush blamers pay attention: What ever fucked-up monetary shit that Bush did during the past many years, Obama just QUADRUPLED IT. Get it? ARE YOU SURE?
Okay, now, what is the moral of this story? Quit spending money that you don't fucking have. Btw, have you heard? Dead people are getting fucking stimulus checks! Hahahahaha!!!
Fucking Washington D.C. nim-rods.
- Your cap lock seems to keep sticking. You should fix that.TheBlueOne

Here, let me re-arrange your paragraph so it makes sense:
"California voters overwhelmingly defeat tax and spend measures. Washington DC. pay some fucking attention to what's going on today in CA."
Um, looks like you fucking loons continue to think you can get all the things in life but not pay for them. Typical california/hollywood jackass thinking. Sure, we want drinking water and highways and cheap gas, but you know, we live in a fucking desert and we're in a war with the middle east, but fuck it, we're americans and we deserve the very best in life and being from fairyland california, we vote as "real americans" to not pay for shit, but we expect all the water, and roads and cheap gas.
Good luck with that.

Here, let me re-arrange your sentence so it makes sense: Typical liberal/san francisco/hollywood jackass thinking.
Btw, no luck needed. The truth always prevails.
But good luck with that.

So GR, what year did you move to the USA? Just curious.
- 1968********
- Interesting...TheBlueOne

- Well then, I am approx. two years older than you. It's all downhill after 40 btw. :-)********

In related news:
Neil Cavuto, concerning the recent CA vote, just said... "those who bagged the tea-baggers, just got bagged themselves"... LOL!!!It's a true statement, as far as California is concerned. Arnold and his legislature just went down in the hugest ball of red, ass-scalding flames.
A total fail as Governor of my great state and out with no honor.
- ukit0
I thought you guys wanted the government to be responsible on spending? That's what the CA government what trying to do you.
You guys should drop the conservative label and just label yourselves nihilists, because there's no coherent philosophy or policy platform there.

"Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger implored them Sunday not to make the state "the poster child for dysfunction" by defeating a host of measures on Tuesday's ballot that seek to restructure the state's bleak finances."
http://www.latimes.com/news/loca…
"The public is under the delusion that they can have everything -- potholes filled, new freeways, a good education system -- but they aren't willing to pay for it ... A lot of critical services are going to be cut and there will be serious consequences," said Jim Hawley of the Elfenworks Center for the Study of Fiduciary Capitalism at St. Mary's College of California...California is in such a bind it may also need a cash rescue by Washington, said Daniel Mitchell of the University of California Los Angeles's School of Public Affairs: "If we got what they've already thrown at the auto industry, that would solve our problems for the next year or two."
http://www.reuters.com/article/d…
It's now official: Caliofornia, the poster child for dysfunction.
So GetRefresh, you're going to be on the front lines making sure California doesn't get any of that dirty Washington money right? Becuase you sure ain't going to pay your taxes to the state, right?
And then the schools close, and the prisons empty, and the roads go unrepaired...
And then in two years, you're going to be out in force saying "See, the dems in the california legislature can't run anything!"
Dysfunctional alright.
- Good post, but the rhetoric is thick and sensationalist. CA will be fine in the long-run. No need for Fed $$$.********
- Also, CA roads are already rated the 2nd or 3rd worst in the nation. Horrible they are. Potholes and roads crumbling everywhere.********
- ... everywhere. Schools in my community are top-rated. I expect them to stay that way, despite cut-backs.********
- Emptying prisons is rhetoric. It should never happen.********
