I think things are going to change radically. Either the problem will be broken down and taken care on the local (state) level, or a global plan will be proposed.
Both are radical ideas, but I see no alternative. Maybe I am crazy.

There is a small, old bridge in Tuscumbia, MO to receive the first of the stimulus money to rebuild.
$8 million dollars employs 12 guys. Yes, steel and other raw materials will also be purchased, with is stimulating, but this is exactly the kind of bullshit that we can all expect.

Although this is a good time to the debate the tax issue, it's only relevant for speculation purposes since the plan isn't to raise them until post-recession 2011. People aren't loosing jobs because of taxes but I can understand that people want to keep more of what they make. Healthcare has far more impact on the ability for small businesses to employ.

And besides, you don't seem to understand how this works. Example, I work for a construction company - we did about $12 million dollars in projects last year. That paid salaries and overhead for three families (Mine included) We hired about 16 different subcontractors (thus supporting their families), dropped about a little more than half that total figure on material - lumber, masonry, etc. on countless suppliers. Yet somehow this type of construction spending in your mind "doesn't help the economy?"
