i think orchestrating coups should be a crime.
- tommyo0
I like coups. I've always said it. Coup away young nations. Coup away.
- tommyo0
You've got to be shitting me. I mean for fucks sakes if this is true, I'm really god damned pissed. Acorn is going to get 5.2 billion dollars, supposedly...fucking 5.2 BILLION dollars. This better be some right wing rhetoric bullshit.
- And why is ACORN bad...outside of some right wing rhetoric?ukit
- The GOP Neocon's bankrupted this country! God Bless George W. Bush********

Sarah Palin launches her first step towards a run in 2012...
- ********0
Good god, get me out of here now.
- tommyo0
Ukit, we could go round and round about what Acorn is or isn't but 5.2 Billion dollars to a non profit community organization is not where our money needs to be spent right now.
Not to mention that:
- There are pending lawsuits against Acorn for various offenses
- It was fundamental in getting votes for Obama
- It's heavily Democrat leaningPut this story on the other foot and imagine that a Republican president earmarked 5 billion dollars for a Republican leaning organization. It doesn't pass the smell test. I hope this story is bullshit. I really do.

"But revised language in the stimulus bill would make the funds available directly to non-profit entities such as ACORN, the low-income housing organization whose pro-Democrat voter-registration activities have been blasted by Republicans."
Such as ACORN...
Tommy, I like you, I do. But sometimes you make it extremely difficult with the sources you read, cite and choose to believe.
read number 6 on this page.
- DrBombay0
If you read that entire page, you really can see the organization the republican attack machine. It is a chain, one politician says it, talk radio latches on to it and then the bloggers get it out to the masses. Looks like Obama is getting blowjobs in the oval office already.

"To create jobs, restore economic growth, and strengthen America's middle class through measures that modernize the nation's infrastructure, enhance America's energy independence, expand educational opportunities, preserve and improve affordable health care, provide tax relief, and protect those in greatest need, and for other purposes"
`American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009'.
oh ok, how do you measure this and hold it to account

House passes $819 billion stimulus bill
Obama lobbied for the bill aggressively, but it garnered no Republican support. Senate likely to take up its version next week.
Fuck the Republicans, who needs them! They collectively fucked this country up in only 8 years, good riddance!
- tommyo0
^^ Utopian, I'm sorry but you're an idiot with this whole 'The Republicans fucked this country up in only 8 years, good riddance.'
You do realize that the Democrat run Congress had lower approval ratings than Bush? Holy fuck, if you think the only person running this country is the President then you need to go spend some time in High School Government class again. Rhetoric rhetoric rhetoric. Some of you fall so easy prey to simple rhetoric. Goes the same for Fox News junkies too. That's what you are you know...the counter balance to the 'arabs scare me' right Republican wing of this country. Read a book. Weren't you the guy who said 'Republicans fucked this country up in 16 years time' just a couple days ago? Even though...by your 'President is the only person on the hill' philosophy....then both Democrats and Republicans fucked this country up in the last 16 years? Or were you not paying attention when the Clintons took the silverware?

tommy. cut to the chase.
what is your solution instead of state intervention?

lol you're broke
(sorry it had to come out like this)

I love the clapping at the end, they were all agreeing 100% with him

low,
Oversight, and Time are really the only things you can do to 'fix' this problem. I just don't believe in the notion of printing up money to give to corporations and I am even more against our gov nationalizing the banks. If you think we have problems now, just wait. You can listen to 10 different economists and none of them will agree wholeheartedly on one approach, that should tell you something...we're in uncharted waters and no one is quite sure what to do about it.
It's also kind of funny to me we're a breath away from printing up another 825 billion dollars. No matter who that money actually goes to ... the middle class and poor are going to be fucked. The dollar was dropping like a rock way before this shit came down ... now pumping the economy with this much money ... and this is only the reported money ... during the last 'bailout' vote, in the week it took to pass it the second time, the FED had already pumped out 900 billion or so out the back door from what I recall. If you know how inflation works, you'll know that the people who first get to touch the money get it at current price, then as it trickles on down to us it becomes worth less and less. Now what happens to the people who are already living life on dollars and cents?

"oversight" and "time" don't sound very proactive to me.
It sounds like a "put our head down and ride out this recession" and "see what comes out the other side"
It is a strategy of "more of the same please" - I think it sounds short sighted and foolish.
I am currently living in a part of the UK that is still suffering the impacts of the 1981 recession. 2 to 3 generations of families, people and communities that had and continue to have opportunity ripped away from them by economic policies similar to what you are suggesting.
Specific right wing economic ideologies such as reducing government spending at a time of recession DIRECTLY contributed to the deepening of the social fragmentation.
it was wrong then and it is wrong now.

What if the bail out money was actually given to the TAX payers intead of the banks?
The money would end up in circulation and end up going where the money deserves to go.
Or just end up with companies that sell luxery items, travel agents etc.
I didn't even try to estimate how much each individual would get. Probably not much.
- tommyo0
low,
So spend all the money you can print and fuck what happens 10 years from now is better? Might feel more proactive I guess. Besides, recessions are part of a natural economy.
We can agree to disagree.

"recessions are part of a natural economy."
I take it then that you don't know much about economics, you don't understand the socio-economic legacies of recession, you don't understand policy, you probably have never lived through a recession and you don't really have anything to offer except for vague complaints and speculation.
let's stop pretending.
- lowimpakt0
from the UK perspective - If anyone is interested in the interface between innovation, state intervention, business response and the recession this is good place to start reading.
