Newsweek 2012 GOP Primary Poll
If John McCain is not elected president, which one of the following three possible candidates would you be most likely to support for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012?
Mitt Romney 35%
Mike Huckabee 26%
Sarah Palin 20%- The GOP will have to do some long hard soul searching if they lose. 2012 is a looong way off.TheBlueOne

Ron Paul Promises To Return When Country Needs Him Most
October 24, 2008 | Issue 44•43WASHINGTON—After piling the last of his Campaign for Liberty signs in the back of a beat-up Ford truck Thursday, Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) once again abandoned his candidacy for president and rode on out toward the low western sun, but not before vowing to come back to Washington "when [the country] is ready." "When the river swirls and the wind blows, and when uncontrollable inflation forces us to revert to the gold standard, and the Federal Reserve bank is exposed as the unconstitutional, neofascist cabal it really is, you'll see me coming over that hill," said Paul, leaving a dusty cowboy hat and a stack of "no" votes on his seat in the House of Representatives. "But don't you fret, America. If you ever feel like your government is getting too big or too intrusive, just give a little whistle, and there I'll be. I'll be there quicker'n you can spit." Although no one has seen or heard from the Texas congressman since Thursday, sources report the Ron Paul for President campaign has gained an additional $2.3 million in contributions since his disappearance.

I still think Ron Paul could have run in the GE and could have done well, but ultimately he wanted to keep his seat in Congress.
- I think all he needed was some more exposure. He really doesn't fit well in the established Rep agenda though.tommyo

Man sentenced for threat to SoCal congressman
AP State | Saturday, Oct 25 2008 9:34 AMA Santa Monica man has been sentenced to a year in a mental health facility for making death threats against a congressman because he believed the government was preventing him from wearing women's underwear.
Thomas Aaron Brothers, 41, was sentenced Friday in Pomona. In August, he pleaded no contest to a felony charge of threatening a government official.
Prosecutors say he threatened to kill Rep. David Dreier during one of several June phone calls to the congressman's district office in San Dimas. During the calls, Brothers complained of government harassment for wearing women's underwear.

(CNN) -- With 10 days until Election Day, long-brewing tensions between GOP vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin and key aides to Sen. John McCain have become so intense, they are spilling out in public, sources say.
Several McCain advisers have suggested to CNN that they have become increasingly frustrated with what one aide described as Palin "going rogue."...
A second McCain source says she appears to be looking out for herself more than the McCain campaign.
"She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone," said this McCain adviser. "She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.
"Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom."

"George W. Bush late Friday asked Attorney General Michael Mukasey to investigate whether hundreds of thousands of newly registered voters in the battleground state of Ohio would have to verify the information on their voter registration forms or be given provisional ballots, an issue the U.S. Supreme Court weighed in on last week.
The unprecedented intervention by the White House less than two weeks before the presidential election may result in at least 200,000 voters in Ohio not being able to vote on Election Day if they are forced to provide additional identification when they head to the polls."
