using dodgy statistics to support anecdotal evidence is dangerous, especially when it is framed around race issues.
- dodgy statistics? you either have a father in your life or your don't. I'm sure they take them once incarcerated********
- ok, give me the original source of your last statistics post.lowimpakt
- http://books.google.…, etc., etc.********
- lowimpakt, just in fairness please try and find some stats that show that welfare has improved poverty levels ortommyo
- helped people in general. I surely haven't found much in that area. In fact everything I've read shows the opposite.tommyo

- I'm not trying to be snarky, I'd actually love to see some upside to this situation.tommyo
- T. I haven't made that suggestion and I wouldn't if i couldn't back it up with some solid evidence.lowimpakt
- Actually, go back to some of my posts, one thing Obama could do, being black, would be Welfare Reform.********
- No problem lowimpakt, I am honestly looking for pro articles on benefits to welfare. It's proving to be a difficult mission!tommyo

If Bush tax cuts aren't renewed... income tax rate goes from 36-39% for the amount of money you make OVER 250,000. So, if you made $275,000, 250k would get the 36 rate, while the 25k over would get the 39.
Big fucking deal. What's 3% of 25k? $750... so what, you make $275 grand for the year, and have a problem putting that $750 towards better education for kids, or improved infrastructure here at home?
I got news for you... our government is spending billions of dollars to build up the infrastructure of Iraq, and they're using your tax dollars to do it.
Say you made $500,000... that's 250 over... and an additional $7500... but you made half a million bucks... boo hoo for you. With that kind of money you can hire an accountant and write off all sorts of stuff.
- At this rate McCain might have to sell one of his eight homes.Mimio
- they aren't his.********
- SigDesign0
wait that's not even accurate, because the 36 rate was the OLD rate for over 250...
- but the increase is still only 3% for OVER 250k...SigDesign
- so, the 250k would get the normal income tax rate...gotta look that up...SigDesign
- I believe also that Obamas tax plan will 'give' money to people who don't currently pay any taxes. I might be wrong.tommyo
- If that's a correct assessment then that's called 'wealth distribution.'tommyo
- Yes, he also mentioned giving a check to current welfare recipient non-tax paying indivuduals as well.********
- That sounds like gov as usual then, keep throwing more and more money at flawed, ineffectual programs.tommyo
- Ohh, you should see the programs in my neck of the woods. Best friend a principal. Hundreds of thousands********
- that's just one school man. accountability. there is none********

You can't tell me for one second that ANY of you, if you made over 250K, would be happy being taxed more, whether it's now or in the future. Obama keeps spouting that Robin Hood-esque redistribution welfare crap over and over. It's probably one reason that McCain is making strides.
- he just wants to go back to the rate it was before George Fucking Bush, when the economy was thrivinghallelujah
- Right, people weren't hurting under that tax rate before.Mimio
- hallelujah, that kind of easy to understand logic that actually makes sense is too much for someone like jazx to comprehend.antares
- The economy was also a lot better, regardless of Bush handling it poorly through those 8.********
- try and comprehend.antares
- who the f*ck are you and why should I care what you think********
- If I made over 250k, I would not mind paying that 3% extra. It's what people paid beforeSigDesign
- The tax cut that Bush made was just a bad move... why not cut it for people who are struggling?SigDesign
- jazx is not able to comprehend anything, except for dollars. he knows nothing about life and meritjanne76
- Why give the top 1% of the people a tax cut? Gates and Buffet both said they don't need a tax cut...DCDesigns

here is what is proposed
http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/t…obama giving money to people who dont pay taxes like some jonny appleseed is fucking laughable. i mean seriously.

My issue with taxes is not that I pay them, but:
1) The tax code is a fucking nightmare.
2) I don't like how the money is spent. If I sucked at my job as much as congress does I'd be unemployed, not getting set up with a top-tier retirement plan. And government contracts are such shit. A colleague refers to those jobs are middle-class welfare for a reason. Lots and lots of our money wasted. And, seriously, that bald, greedy bastard in Ohio can cry me a fricken river. If he doesn't want to pay taxes on that last $30k he can invest it back into his company.
- blaw, that's the issue. how is the money I'll be taxed, which will be more under Obama's Plan, be "redistributed"?********
- I don't buy into that GOP "socialism" talking point. I truly do not.blaw
- You can't "redistrubute" tax dollarsSigDesign
- tax money is distributed for programsSigDesign
- I liked what Obama said to "Joe",
he wants to help the people that would be working for him that...DCDesigns - would be making LESS than "Joe". I guess "Joe" doesn't care about his potential workers??DCDesigns

And the folks making $40k a year cheering when Gov. Palin says they are just like Quarter-Million-Dollar-Joe are the very definition of the voting morons I've come to expect in this republic of ours.
It's not a football game. Turn off the television, do a little reading and make a sound conclusion on your own. Idiots.

Maybe the Republicans would get more traction if their arguments weren't so ridiculous. Repealing the Bush tax cuts means we become a socialist country?? Those tax cuts were pitched as temporary in the first place, and Johnny McCain even opposed them when they were first proposed.
- like JazX, they can't make honest arguments... they feel they have to lie, cheat and play on hatred to winhallelujah

Blaw you're absolutely right. Also, I think a lot of these tax bracket envy issues are simply smokescreen. Turn the many (not rich) against the few (rich) when no one asks the question 'what is gov spending this money on? And do we as a whole society agree with it?' Why do government contractors get $ signs in their eyes when they land a contract? Simply put, gov overspends even on things they need. I read an article a while ago that talks about the 4 different scenarios of spending money, I thought it was pretty interesting, alas I can't find it but I'll paraphrase:
1. Someone buying something for themselves with their own money. The person will look for value AND quality.
2. Someone buying something for someone else. The person will look for value over quality.
3. Someone buying something for themselves with someone elses money. The person will look for quality over value.
4. (the scenario that fits gov spending) The person is buying somethng for someone else, with someone elses money. They look for neither quality nor value.
In essence the way gov uses our money to purchase things is flawed psychologically and leads to over spending. Which is also why gov agencies are bloated (too many people for the amount of work). I don't know a good answer for this but I do know that if gov ran itself with the ever watchful eye that private businesses do, they'd be a lot more efficient and cost effective.

How about if we all received a payout if the person we voted for ended up with a surplus, or had to pay if there was a deficit? HAHA, that would never happen but I guarantee people would do more research about who they were voting for.
- Talk to Wall Street, I hear they're looking for more ways to bet legally! hahatommyo

@Tommyo
That is sad but true. The saddest part is that's impossible to fix. Even dedicated oversight can't weed out the dead weight.
Private business: Bust your ass or go broke.
Governement business: Just keep talking.

Simple question alert!!
does the private sector benefit from the provision of infrastructure (roads, rail, airports, street lighting etc), the provision of skills and education, the provision of security (political, environmental etc) and the provision of culture?
if so, who pays for these things and who has the responsibility for producing these?
