can you not draw some sort of circle path and get the gradient to follow it (sorry can't be assed to try)
- indian_pole0
i reckon it might be a cheat, 4 separate boxes with their own gradients that match up.
- I agree, but you only need 3 boxes... 2 above, 1 below.ETM

I answered a similar question to this a couple of years back, which I'm pretty sure could be bodged to fit your needs, but I can't find the file I used (which is strange, because I don't usually delete anything).
Anyhoo, if it's important enough to you, you could invest in 'mesh tools' from http://members.shaw.ca/spvincent… ($30, Mac only)

Dig through this, you might find some clues..

i bet you could get really close to this... and even exactly this if you spent enough time... using the gradient mesh tool.
- Try it.
It's a real fucker!detritus - no doubt, i just tried it. its like trying to figure out how to put a dog in the bath tub.rodzilla

this is a great question. i have renewed faith in qbn.
- usrper0
thanks so much guys! I'll try it out

oh actually i think i know this, harkens back to old school AI before grads..
the blend command. draw a line and copy rotate on end point on intervals to 360°. adjust stroke color value of each line to mimic desired grad. select all and hit Blend.
lemme try.
- horton0
- now without the wee white lines :)
nice wan.detritus - you could fill in the tiny spaces by increasing the stroke width or increasing the blend frequency in blend optionshorton
- the white lines are what I was having trouble with as well. so what to do.
rodzilla - I was kidding - your lines were far wee'r than the bloody gaping gaps I had going in my aborted attempt!detritus
- now without the wee white lines :)

another option:
1) draw a box
2) fill with linear gradient
3) object>expand (255 levels ought to do well)
4) drag to brushes palette and create 'art brush'
5) apply brush to a circle and adjust stroke with until it all matches up.
6) clipping-mask as necessary- note: you probably need to release a clipping mask on the expanded objectmonNom
