well actually, power paragliding. anyone ever tried it? i know j_red is an avid paraglider...but don't know of anyone else on this site.
The wife surprised me with an early birthday present. I've been wanting to go paragliding for years!! so badass!
anyway, if you ever get a chance to try something new, may i suggest this. pure awesome.I can't wait to set up some more lessons. the bad thing about it is that the equipment is probably going to be over $5k!! (for the paragliding stuff, not power paragliding)...so not sure if i will ever own my own stuff. we'll see though :)

wow. The epitome of an ultra fail thread. I thought it was fun... :(

My first design tutor nearly died in a paragliding accident. As he touched ground a gust of wind dragged him at top speed into a wall. He was mangled after that and had to give up his job.

Hey, glad you had fun, man! Happy (early) birthday. No way am I doing anything like this. I'm grateful enough just to have gotten through my twenties in one piece.

isn't this how john denver lost his head?

I'd love to do something like this but I'm a big crapper.

awww, cool :)
(chossy will like these images)

By the way, I would love to try something like this! I used to want to try air surfing or whatever you call it. Looks like terrible fun :)

i used to genuinely want to go skydiving.
i was younger then.
and really, really high.
- lvl_130
I never really wanted to skydive. It seemed like you would have no control. With paragliding you have total control...when you aren't strapped to an instructor...and when the wind isn't taking you down into the ground at 80mph into the ground! :D

I got dragged behind a boat in bali with a parachute, can't say it was that exciting. Having the freedom to roam would've been much better.

That looks pretty cool, heights arnt really my thing. I might start with ballooning, baby steps.
Big points for having a photo essay to accompany your story though!

Looks like the instructor is a little too close, if you know what I mean.

wow! that looks ace. i've just started to train as a scuba diver which is superb. the buzz you get from these adventure sports is like nothing else. years ago i did a static line parachute jump for charity and loved it. i wish i'd have carried on when i was younger.
happy birthday

dude that is awesome, glad you finally tried it, glad you had fun. normal paragliding is so much sweeter, it's totally silent, you feel like a bird, i hope you try that sometime too.
gear is 5k max, you can get decent used gear for much less, i'm actually in the market for a new setup and can sell you mine for like 1200.
seriously, it's hard to explain how cool it is to someone who hasn't done it, right?
anyway, that's great to hear you rocked it, nice work.
(j_red - they cancelled my acct for mentioning the eff w a!)
- totally want to do it without the engine! i'm going to send you an email about your equip.lvl_13

I have been working 4years as inhouse graphic designer for a paragliding brand. I didn't expect this sport to be so radical.

my girlfriend nearly got blown out to sea parasailing in croatia last year. storm came out of nowhere and they two boys in the boat could not get her back down again.
- lvl_130
yeah, i can't wait to get back out and try it without the motor this next time! i can only imagine it would be that much better without that thing buzzing in your ears!
j_red, i'll hit you up via email. let's talk! can i just email you at your addy you have here on qbn?
